Enhancing certain spots sounds like what some people do to their jeans; they pinched for sharp creases and took sandpaper to it. From the pics, it does feel that way.
The allure of raw denim is gradual wear and tear, the process and changes through wear. The sick fadez was a bonus (mostly). For people who don't have the time for that, there are washed versions, obviously. Introducing wear spots on a brand new pair kinda defeats the fun doesn't it? And people got called out for that. Snobby yes, as is common in these types of hobby circles, but why pay so much for a pair of jeans, just to, ahem, sand it down and weaken the fabric? I'd hit the mall and grab something more easy on the wallet.
