Good Budget Gaming Keycap Set - Tai Hao 22-Key Rubber Backlit Gaming Keycap Set
Tai Hao makes a wide range of keycaps and sets, and generally they have more offerings at the budget end of the market than their competitors. I have given them some harsh reviews when their quality was just not good enough, but these rubber sets are a nice value option. This particular 22 key set is meant as an add-on to your regular caps and it includes your WASD cluster, arrow keys, 1-6 keys and a bunch of other keys common for gaming.
PROS:
+ Rubber surface has a nice grip and feel that does actually make repetitive typing more comfortable
+ Criss-cross pattern gives them a distinct feel, super easy to identify them by feel compared to standard keycaps
+ Legends are shine-through doubleshot so they are easy to read on backlit keycaps
+ Perhaps because of the rubber coating, these show more even shine through than many other budget Tai-Hao sets
+ 3 color options
+ Good basic instructions on the package
+ Price provides very nice value compared with most gaming keycap sets, especially on a "cost per key" basis
CONS:
- The included keycap puller is only going to work for those who have no other; it's better than nothing but it's a super cheap one
- The legends are almost illegible without backlit keys, especially on the pink and yellow sets
- The surface is a bit hard to clean and does collect finger oils pretty quickly
CONCLUSION:
I use my keyboards mainly for work. Since I am not a hardcore gamer I haven't used these enough to comment on durability. But I am hopeful based on my experience so far. These are a nice value.
The rubber texture help align my hand properly during long gaming sessions. Without it, my hand tended to drift and I would find myself pushing the wrong input.
I ordered the pink version and they’re a fun color. The RGBs shine through the legends really well, although there is some light leak in the entire north side. It doesn’t bother me though. Mine are on a Corsair K68 that otherwise has stock keycaps, and the Tai-Ho are slightly shorter than the rest but it works for a gaming keyboard.
I got these specifically so my fingers always easily reset to WASD and it works for that. The rubber texture is fun and not distracting.
They feel super nice and have a nice even glow from lights. There is are bump here or there that is a bit larger than the rest that feels a bit weird, but overall they are quite comfy.
