"Beats did something amazing when they set the bar with Beats by Dre. It really helped bring headphones into mainstream media and singlehandedly created the market that exists today."

tyler555The bar being set by Beats I think is in the "cool" factor. They made it not just OK, but COOL and DESIRABLE to wear bulky, closed-back pair of headphones on public transit, walking down the street, or working out (WHAT!?).

That being said: Beats HAS created a market. Unfortunately, the market it's created a view of headphones as a fashion/style accessory, rather than something to enhance the listening experience of a well recorded and mastered piece of art.
tyler555I'd agree with that. What they pioneered may not have been good, but they did an amazing job at it. For every shake of the head we/audiophiles give Beats, people looking at it from the business end give a nod. They gave a major push to the idea that even non-enthusiasts should/could be spending more than $150 on headphones. Whether or not they got their money's worth wasn't Beats' problem :P
tyler555Eh... really? The only people I ever saw wearing Bose headphones were Upper-Middle-Class white people on airplanes. Then Beats came along, and I see everybody and their dog bopping down the street with them on their heads or around their necks. Bose has never been about the "cool" factor until Beats came along and created the market for "Headphones As Fashion"
