IvabignI'd guess a lot of the people looking to buy a $600 Ableton-exclusive MIDI controller are already bedroom producers, or at least familiar with Ableton. Besides, even Live Intro supports VSTs and Audio Units if you're on a Mac. You can source your plugins (instruments, effects, etc) elsewhere -- there's tons of free ones.
If you want to jump right into making music with no prior experience, I would probably advise against dropping this much cash right away until you can discover what your preferences are. You would still have a pretty solid platform to make music or even DJ with from just the Push and Live Intro though.
