I've been waiting for a good NVMe deal, but this just kinda hurts to look at. For 13% higher price, a 960 EVO 1TB gets you (according to spec): 78% higher read speeds 123% higher write speeds 175% higher IOPS The only thing I would say is that perhaps this M.2 drive is much more stylish, if you're into that sort of thing.

UberdoodleLooks good when you put it that way. But when you realize this equates to fractions of a second it kinda means you're paying 13% more for the same 1 TB to save time you've never noticed lost... This M.2 has a fancy heat sink. That M.2 has fancy numbers. Aside from being a 1 TB ssd, everything else is useless.

BoomtownWhen you consider that many high or mid-high motherboards have their own m.2 heatsinks that actually match the board's aesthetic while also decreasing temperatures; the specification differences matter more and more. As does the rated life of the drive.

BoomtownI'll be the first one to drop from the plane in PUBG with that 78% boost in read speed. NVMe M.2. is on the pci express interface with a higher bandwidth rate vs the slow old sata interface. NVMe drives, on the other hand, provide write speeds as high as 3500MB/s. That’s 7x over SATA SSDs!

gosugenji... I mean.. dropping from the plane is not hard drive dependent....

branchiniTell that to my friend on his 5200 rpm drive. First match of the day, he always gets forcibly kicked out of the plane at the edge of the map. On his screen its still stuck loading but he can hear sounds of the plane and people jumping around at the start.

gosugenjiIrrelevant. This is about one ssd vs another ssd. NOT ssd vs hdd. In this case, there is a delay to jump from the plane. So, One ssd may load faster; but, both ssd drives will load before anyone can jump. So back to my point, the increased price of one drive will give you unnoticed performance gains.

UberdoodleI think this is a pretty good deal, the warranty is on par with Samsung, it has a heat sink, and it's still a lot faster than SATA 6Gb/s. Plus it just looks fast!

BoomtownFor sure it's based on preference. I'm just providing some feedback from those who prefer fancy numbers over fancy heatsinks/decal. If I'm spending $400 on an SSD, I want the highest performant technology for my money.

gosugenjiThat sounds like a problem with internet lag, not hdd/ssd speed

gosugenjiIf your buddy's loading ends when he's kicked from the plane, it's not his Hdd. I play off a 5200rpm hdd

BoomtownIf you're working with giant file sizes it will make a world of a difference. time is money. on small file sizes fractions, on giant file sizes seconds and more.

JRyeRight. But I don't work with big files and many other buyers don't either. In terms of playing games there's not much impact between this and the Samsung. So the extra money to buy faster memory wont be very beneficial. $ to performance wise.

BoomtownYea but games wasn't the point I was making. To your point, this drive is fine for gaming and system boot since it won't make a noticeable difference. It's a good pick for this community to your point of "gamers." My point is there are much faster drives with nvme that will be a better pick for someone working in media and not just gaming. I have to imagine there are more people than just me working in media on this site. This drive is as fast as anything out there for gaming or just booting a PC. But for anything in media, samsung's nvme drives offer way faster data transfer which makes a huge difference in time it takes to export transfer or both. This drive, as you've pointed out, will be just as fast for booting your system or gaming. My point is that if your doing media, there is better in terms of data transfer out there.
