I purchased this last year and only started on it yesterday. I bought it with the idea of it being laser cut and it should be accurate. I'm not a new quilter, but can easily classify myself as advance beginner/intermediate. The instructions may seem daunting at first, but if actually taken the time to read through them, it's not that bad. Now onto my comments on the kit I received. For a new quilter, taking the time to read through the instructions is key. There are a lot of pieces of fabric that are marked off with their corresponding codes that are in the piecing charts. However, the codes in the charts are not consistent...in other words, while the label on the fabric pieces may say "PFC2", on the printed chart, it's annotated as either "PFC2" or "C2PF". Sometimes the codes are broken up into 2 lines. Coming from a graphic designer background, this doesn't sit well with me, since there is more than enough room on the chart to make sure that everything is consistent. In my kit, a good portion of the background pieces were marked wrong. There was an extra letter in the code thrown in and it didn't match the printed codes. I went through the whole pattern and didn't see anything that indicated the code that was on the label for the fabric pieces. What I ended up doing was adding up the pieces in question throughout the printed charts and counted out the lasercut pieces to see if that was consistent. Now...onto the lasercutting itself...I feel that these are not cleanly nor accurately cut. I finished the first block that involved 65 pieces and found that I had to do quite a bit of "fudging" to get the pieces to fit. I'm a pretty accurate piecer with a consistent 1/4" seam. Final thoughts. I bought this kit with the intention of just wanting to get in and start sewing a project without having to cut the pieces. However, I found that I had to re-sew and do quite a bit of "fudging" for a kit that is supposed to be accurately laser cut. The pieces would've been more accurate if I had cut them myself by hand. Unless it's a laser cut prefused applique kit, I don't think I'll be purchasing anymore of the laser cut pieced kits in the future. The idea behind this is great, but the execution can be improved. Better quality control is needed from the factory that puts these together. I also think that the pieces aren't cut that accurately is because too many layers of fabric are being cut at once, so shapes can be slightly warped as a result. I've seen this before when I worked in a quilt shop when we were trying to cut shapes from a die cutter. When organizing the pieces to sew, double and triple check that you have the right pieces and fabric direction is going the correct way. I found that a mini design board helps immensely when laying out the pieces before I start sewing. With all that being said, it's still a beautiful quilt. There are a few speed bumps that I've encountered, but if taking the extra steps, it'll turn out great.

It is identified as 'quilt as you go'. Is that accurate? If so, how are the blocks connected?

I was excited to order this kit, but found the pieces were not cut accurately. If I didn't have many years of experience, I'd have given up on this. There was a lot of 'fudging' to do to get the pieces to fit right. The top is done, but I doubt it'll be quilted any time soon. Makes me leery to order any other Hoffman kits.

glomskoh! The reason I bought was for the accuracy in cutting I was expecting in the kit! (I was hoping to zip through it and give it away!) You have me wondering...! I hope they got other comments and this new drop will be cut better?! Yup, if it is not, I will post and also shy away from future kits here. Thanks for the heads up!
