I was on the drop in July 2016 for this unit. I'm in the UK. It was OK for a few years until I started suffering the volume problem that people are talking about. I lived with it for quite a while until it drove me nuts and I had to replace the unit. (I wasn't going to endure the postage and customs mayhem of returning this to the USA) I'm trying to talk with ServiceCentre to see if they know of the fix and whether it's something I can do myself. Maybe a pot issue... I hope. This is a shame as apart from this it's been a nice sounding unit, driven by optical and line in, in my case and used to drive a pair of older Castle bookshelf speakers. The headphone jack also started causing problems though towards the end. Personally, I would avoid this unit and seek an alternative.

Just an update. I'm having shut down problems with mine. Been doing this for the first year. I don't recommend this unit.

0 stars, how can an amp that looks and sound so well build have such a cheap and poorly executed volume knob, control and execution? How any one still buys these is amazing.

This was my first amp I used for headphones back when the X00's were my only cans. I can confirm that the sound sync issue that everyone else has does in-fact exist. I get this with both USB and Optical. What's weird is if I closed a browser and open it again everything is synced fine. I eventually got the ZMF Eikon's to replace the X00's and felt that this amp wasn't really doing it justice, so I got the Audio-GD NFB11.28 and couldn't have been happier. Then just recently my NFB had to be sent back for repairs. I've had to go back to this amp, and while the sound sync issue is still present there is also a few other things that have started happening.
  1. While increasing the volume (or decreasing, for that matter) the volume will randomly jump around and at times go so loud that i've had to resort to changing the volume away from my ears.
  2. When listening to music the volume will increase and decrease by itself. I've heard this can be from loose cables, but all the cables are firmly secure.
  3. Listening to anything loud - highs in particular - will cause a very persistent and constant crackle sound. Again, I checked all cables and everything is in firmly.
I can't really say that I got unlucky with my unit because all these things have been mentioned by others before. It really disappoints me to say, but I can't wait to get my NFB back so I can throw this thing away for good.

The volume jumps for no reason, to superloud. Sometimes I need to tap on the volume knob to get volume back to normal.

mookstheooksI've had this issue before. Have you checked the speaker connections on the back of the amp?

Mine died recently (had it almost 1 year), looking for a good replacement that is similarly sized (Under 10" wide and deep). I got the speakers that come with it and want to keep using those. And have a 6XX headphones.

Certainly better looking than most of the similar stuff offered lately (especially the Toping stuff), and really, when you get right down to it, aren't good looks the key to a good sound system?

Careful with buying this. Lots of people have had theirs go out on them, including me. Volume nob tends to break. On my end, unless I turn up the speakers to a very loud setting, I only hear sound out of the right speaker.

I'd recommend the Emotiva A-100 with a Chromecast Audio (or other external DAC) for just a few more dollars if the DAC section isn't of big use to you. The A-100 is more powerful on both the speaker amp and the headphone amp section.

bYtockIf only the Emotiva had an optical input...
