Too many negatives on Amazon reviews for serious lack in build quality. Thinking of canceling order....

Will+100 That would be much appreciated. I really want to follow through with this drop but the build quality issue is not giving me warm and fuzzy feelings. Unfortunately, this is one celebrity headphones I might be a sucker for LOL

bjwYardstick posted earlier that the newer version starts at serial number 7000+ ours are all above 10,000 so they're the new sets.
If you can post more criteria to use to verify, I've got them on my desk.

WillAnyway to double check with AKG on this ? I know you have your samples but It would be awesome to get a little official word that AKG won't send us the ones that are breaking

WillYeah, if AKG can confirm these are indeed the later model that fixed the build quality issues, I'd be glad to join. A stress test, also, with one of the samples in your office would be greatly appreciated!

WillTry extending the headband adjustment and check the thinner, inside part just over the metal hinge. On the newer version there should be a small bump in the plastic. If you can post a picture of that part of the headband, that may help.

Yardst1ckGlad to check, do you have a link to some evidence about that correlating to new vs old production?
Your post about serial numbers makes sense, and I've been able to verify that everything after serial 7000 is different than before (AKG is working on verifying all units for this drop are post 7000, that being said, they told me their last recorded sale started at 8000 serial so it's nearly impossible any of these units are below 7000) but I tried explaining this plastic bump situation to them and they don't know what you're talking about.

WillIf you end up breaking any of them while stress testing, I'd be interested in buying one or two that are broken, if that's a thing that's possible to do.

daruSadly no, not worth the hassle. If we break these, only person that wins is the trash man.

WillThere is no official evidence other than what has been posted in the head-fi thread on these headphones. I attached pictures of the one I had that broke (low serial number) and a newer version with the bump in the headband.
Both pictures are from the K267 thread on head-fi here: http://www.head-fi.org/t/634426/akg-k267-ti-sto-discussion-impressions-review-thread/1035

Yardst1ckWow, that's super subtle, props to @Lucaat for being able to show it in a picture.
Good news though, the samples have that bump. I haven't been able to get the lighting right to show it, but you can feel it.
Seems like it's probably due to some piece of metal reinforcing the joint. Tried wrenching at the joint, didn't have any problems withstanding my assault.

WillGood to hear. The curvature also gives some mechanical advantage in terms of how the force is distributed on that weak spot giving it a little more strength if I'm not mistaken. Could be wrong though. Glad I jumped on this this morning though.
Either way, you guys do do warranty, I just wanted to know what these sounded like :p

WillWill,
How long is the warranty if it does break? Would it be covered by you guys or do we have to contact AKG for a replacement?

SerlI mean, there are some really nice pictures of it in the Description section. I guess I could take some shittier pictures with my phone, not sure why you'd want that though.
