So many questions based on this discussion...
Were there any other scratch&dents reported? I only read about one.
Did the stress test ever happen? Never saw a report.
Do any of the concerns people have expressed have any effect on sound quality or is it just build?
Is the current drop ( late/10/2015) from the same inventory as the original that is being cleared out due to a packaging change?
Are any of these concerns really worth passing on a headphone that is so steeply discounted? Cheapest I can find anywhere else is ~$200US.

Two people thus far have posted pictures of damage / mishandling.
The stress test, I do believe, did happen. Look into the earlier replies by Will.
The sound quality should not be affected by any of these cosmetic issues. I don't think anyone has complained about sound quality.
I cannot speak about the inventory drop.
It's up to you. I've been tracking the AKG 267's on eBay for a few months now. I would say on a bid auction, the average price I see these phones go for is about $140.00 including shipping costs. I have personally seen a new 267 bid auction end without a single bid where the starting price was $70.00, and many like this under the $100.00 price mark. That said, it's up to you if the discount is worth the possibility of getting an older model, and / or getting a model that is not insured.

Only saw one report of damage out of the box
No stress test from MassDrop as they didn't want to break it
Sound quality no, build yes
I'm pretty sure they had over 500 "in their warehouse," so this drop is part of that inventory clear
I'm new to the higher end cans and while my only issue with these are not that great for someone with a big head (it fits me just fine but I've noticed the the headband adjustment is very small), but these are great. No muddy bass and it doesn't take over the vocals. Not only that the distortion is not there. I'm really enjoying these far more than HD600, HD700 and price per LCD 2.

Members William_Shiu and dennis.chung have both posted pictures of damage on the page before.
