music and build quality: these. traveling: the M40xs
Not sure what you looking for,and i only know about ath-m40x, but if your looking for accurate response, in volume response linearity in frequencies, the k553 is in a whole different league, all over the place. There is not even a close question..
fo the k553 ll you need do is either attenuate below 105hz frequencies by 4db for a very relatively good response, all the way from 20hz to 2700hz, the rest is something debatable for all headphones i know about.. or you could net even better linearity to 3700hz by boosting 105hz by 4db upto 6, where you would drop the boosting, and you can fine tune if you like, for even great linearity if you like, but either of those first two tweaks wil give you very good sound. the m40x has a climbing base and it`s crashing and rolling all over the place.. so i would have to say, the m40x is not a very accurate headphone,a t least i comparison to a k553, and with the k553 you can get very good response from very minor source equalization. These to unis arnt in the same league in terms of linear volume frequency response. The k553 build quality seems to be impressive as well.
