So my Razer Blacksharks sound better: http://www.amazon.com/Razer-BlackShark-Isolating-Gaming-Headset/dp/B00J8740YI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1430111573&sr=8-1&keywords=razer+blackshark.
You don't have to tell me there is a problem with gaming headsets sounding better than these audiophile cans. I hear more of the instruments and a better bass with the blacksharks without sacrificing anything else. Are my ears just not trained to pick up on certain subtleties or what? What am I missing? I *want* to like these and they are by no means sound bad.... I'm using these on a vinyl turntable and a sony receiver from the early 2000's. Any ideas?

Temporarilyidlei mean, no one can convince you of your opinion. you need to come around on your own. in short: yes, your ears are not trained/familiar. compare the two sets through various mediums(connected to a reciever, a PC, an amp/dac stack, your phone, various volumes, etc) with different subject material (classical/electronic/blues, movie trailers, games, etc).
the main thing you could focus on is called soundstage. that is where you should more quickly notice a difference. these headphones are surprisingly capable of delivering a sound that appears 'far away' or 'outside' of your cup, especially considering they are not open-back. you're probably noticing a 'lacking' bass in comparison to your gaming headphones and feeling like you are missing out.

Temporarilyidlei suggest plugging them into a player/radio/ect with a mix of music styles at mid volume(just around where you would listen, perhaps a tiny but higher, let them burn in for a bit, also, dont swap back and forth, listen to the k553's exclusivly for an extended time, i was swapping back and forth and...well i do wish these naturally had a bit more impact but...they are extreamly detailed...not sure why you would say the blacksharks sound better other then being use to their sound sig (i have used them and, they arent horrible but...they are far from the best sounding cans i have used...hell i think my ha-rx900's sound as good or better....but they have hundreds if not thousands of hours on them...very well burnt in)
now some will say burn-in is bullshit....i would agree in some cases, but for the rx900's and any other JVC dynamic driver headphone/earphone, burnin makes a huge diff.....
not sure on these, but wouldnt be surpriced if they start sounding better at 30+hrs burnin...i have seen people say the highs become a bit more tame...(good there are some weird spikes these pickup...its not bad though...i can listen for hours without fatigue, unlike many other head/ear phones i have owned/used.
