Could an audiophile help me? I currently have a xonar DGX sound card and a FiiO E17. Is this good enough with this pair of cans, or should I drop money for a FiiO e09K as well? Either way, what would be the most optimal setup/way to wire/connect everything together?
I have a question, are you using the sound card and the e17? Because the e17 is a dedicated amp and dac, but I ran my q701s with an e17 and it worked out fine.
These cans will work with just about any headphone amp. They are not very hard to drive. The E17 has plenty of power.
Do you know how to wire everything up so that the Dolby from the sound card carries over too? Also, will the e17 be more than enough if I plan on using VOIP?
Essentially, will I be a happy skyping gamer with: PC -> DGX -> toslink/optical cable -> FiiO E17 -> headphones?
Before, I was only using the E17 for my android phone but seeing as I switched to iphone, it's been sitting there. I never though to use the e17 in conjunction with my sound card so I'm scrub and do not know much.
Hey. I use the DGX at the moment as well. The optical cable will not carry the surround processing. You will need to use the 3.5mm headphone out to get the dolby process to carry over. This will work but it is not ideal.
With the Sound Blaster Z or Omni (same thing), the optical cable will carry the surround so you can use an external DAC. I do this on my setup and it's awesome.
That's the trick though: it's the Omni not the DGX. The DGX cannot output dolby out of its optical. I know, I've tried. I am actually planning on upgrading to the Omni when I can.
Tyvm. So power my e17 with usb, but input with 3.5mm and output with 3.5mm? Is using the front panel fine? And is there any particular reason to upgrade to the sound blaster omni?
the e17 has a 3.5 input doesn't it?
Use the back panel for best quality. The omni is better because of its superior processing (subjective) and th3 fact that you can bypass its amp and output using RCA to a better amp. The DGX is fine for the meantime though.
Okay. Tyvm for dealing with my questions Zalhera. One day, I'll upgrade.
How do you have it set up to carry the surround processing? I just bought the Sound Blaster Z and can't figure it out the correct options.
