Do I need an amp for these headphones and if its necessary what one would you recommend, I know very little about headphones but quality is always great.

Arioux01From what I've gathered you want an amp or a soundcard. Hopefully an audiophile can come help us out because I want to see the answer as well.

WaddleThese are harder to drive than their specs would indicate. Here's the short version on whether you need an amp:
1 - If you can get the volume to your desired level, you don't NEED an amp. Most computer sound cards and digital music players will provide this just fine. The big thing to look out for is using it with a Mixamp when you're gaming. You might want additional amplification for this use as it can sometimes be too quiet if you're chatting too.
2 - While you don't NEED an amp to get these loud enough, the sound quality will be just good. For them to sound great, you'll want a decent amp.
3 - If you've never heard something like this headphone, you'll think it sounds fine with no amp. But once you amp it, you won't want to go back.
Hope this helps a little.

StillhartYou wouldn't happen to be able to give any recommendations about what might make a decent amp for use with these would you? I've never owned a set of headphones worth having an amp for and I don't know anything at all about them.

ScruffySCMatrix M-Stage, Audio-GD NFB-15 (DAC+Amp, crazy value) are the two I've used with my Q701 based on recommendations for others. They were both very very good. I've also seen the Schiit Vali and Little Dot Mk 1 recommended a lot for budget options. There are a ton of great options, to be honest. I'd recommend the Audio-GD if you can afford it.

ScruffySCFiio makes good amp/dac combos for a fair price. A lot of people like Schiit's amp/dac combo which is about $200. That may be out of your price range. There are a lot of options, and I don't know them all, reddit is always a good place to start (I know it's a bad answer).

Waddlei'm not an audiophile but from what I understand you would want an amp if your headphones are too quiet or you are going to use a dac. and you would use a dac if you can hear noise in your music that shouldn't be there. I believe amps can change the sound and some people like the sound signature of certain amps so they run them with the headphones.
these headphones require almost double the power of normal headphones so you may find your self needing an amp if they end up to quiet. 65 Ohm isn't crazy high (using 56 Ohm atm with no amp) but lowered powered devices like phones may not do so well.

StillhartThe thing about #1 is while some sources will get you the volume at the most noticeable frequencies, and at first make you think it is acceptable, less noticeable bands like sub-bass can be really really poor and muddied up.

scalablecoryYes, which is why I added further points about it sounding much better with amping. For beginners, it's not important to go into the gory details about "bands" and "sub-bass".
If it's loud enough for you, you don't NEED and amp. If you want it to sound its best, tho, then yes, get an amp.
