They beat the AKG K712 on this comparison on Head-Fi:

payodpandaLooks like it's over in the US.
Fellow Canadians, the deal is there on Amazon.ca still (http://www.amazon.ca/Sennheiser-HD-598-Over-Ear-Headphones/dp/B0042A8CW2)
On a side note, I owned the HD598 and currently have the Q701. FWIW, I prefer the Q701. The soundstage is more wider, and (to me) it's more comfortable. Although, for some people, the bumps are what sinks the AKG in comfort. I also found, after a bit of EQ, the Q701 bass felt more complete - hard to describe.
This might not be an issue for most, but I also found the HD5xx headphones earpad to be narrow, I hate that if it moved a little, it touched the edges, and the AKG's are more circular and large.
Still, those are very minute picky things, they're still damn good @ the price above.

Psychetronyea, the amazon deal was really good considering if these K7XXs and the HD598 were similar, the price on the HD598 blew these out of the water

payodpandaI don't think that they "normally sell" for $320 on amazon. The MSRP on them is only $250 and I am pretty sure that at most stores they typically sell at about $200 or less. The $320 seems a whole lot like an artificial markup to make the price they normally sell at seem better. (Headphone MSRPs in general are usually more than what the headphones actually sell for, but $320 is even more than the MSRP and goes beyond what is normal).

SuperBobKingThe M.S.R.P. is actually $320 which means absolutely nothing. The average street price was $195 to $210. Amazon was selling them for $181 before they dropped them to $99 on a Gold Box (24 hour) Deal. An Amazon insider told me they sold "thousands" and the deal lasted about 3 hours instead of 24. Hope some of you got a taste of a real classic. I like mine better than my 702s.

Yeah, that is totally $320 dollars. I know MSRP means nothing, I just mentioned it since if I had just said that they don't actually sell for $320, someone probably would have said that headphones don't usually go for the MSRP.

SuperBobKingOh okay, my bad. I just quoted the price from the Amazon listing. All I wanted to convey was that this was a pretty good deal from what I read about the headphones on various online forums, which considered it a good buy below $300 (some going as far as saying they're the best set of headphones you can get below $500 but I'm not sure about that claim).
PS. I said "normally sell for $320" because the Amazon listing during sale time said: "List Price: <strikethrough>$319.00</strikethrough> Price: $99"
Now it says "Price: $180" instead, which is *still* cheaper than this pair. This being my first pair of proper headphones I'm still very confused about where to go.

payodpanda$100 dollars is a great deal on the hd598. They aren't normally more expensive headphones than this though. I don't know how they rank in quality compared to these since I haven't heard them or much comparing the two. But saying they are the best headphones below $500 seems like a bit much. If they were that good I would expect them to be much more popular.
