I wanted to join in, but the international shipping has disappeared. Could you please reactivate it?!
No they can't, as it has been said multiple times, AKG has contractual agreements with distributors that confined MD to only allowing international sales for the first batch of 2000 units. So the next 4000 units are limited to US only
that's where massdrop should have stepped in... They are the primary buyers and located in the USA. what they do after the purchase , ship it to the secondary subs or burn it all, AKG has no say. Massdrop suffers for this technicality and hence us.
I'm sorry, but Massdrop wasn't acting intelligent here. IMHO the huge majority of buyers are based internationally! I had to wait until a trustworthy review source tested these cans, to see how these compare to my K601. Now they'll have ~2600 cans left at the end of the drop and I would be happy to take one pair of their hands, but can't. This is not the way to do business...
There isn't anything they could have done about it. AKG has contracts with distributors in other countries that give them exclusive rights to distribute AKG products there. Even if these headphones are exclusive to massdrop those contracts still apply. AKG can't just rip up those contracts because massdrop asked them to. I HIGHLY doubt massdrop even comes close to those international distributors in purchasing power. If massdrop told AKG that either they would distribute them internationally or not at all no one would be getting these headphones. There was a graph posted earlier in the comments that showed that a vast majority of the people in the drop were from the usa. I made a pretty long comment with why I think that the drop is slowing down (along with some other things) about halfway through the comments. If you want to read it you can just go to my profile and find the really long comment.
Good point, thank you for the insight (and your very long comment ;)). I didn't know that such a big amount of people in the drop were based in the US. The buyers I was referring to are of course potential ones. Like you I don't know the details of the contract they negotiated with AKG. It's just disappointing that I can't order these now, after I didn't want to rush things without seeing a review...
