Honestly, this was a waste of money and I am truly disappointed. These AKG K7XX are made in China and do not meet the same level of quality as the AKG K702 65th Anniversary Editions. What a joke MassDrop and shame on you for thinking these would be worth $650 MSRP.
How do these differ besides the "made in china" sticker?
Genuinely curious. I've never seen any other K70* headphones in person.
Please, do tell us the difference between AKG K702s made in Austria and these.
Well, it does seem like a worrying number of people are reporting problems with theirs.
Mine seem to be just fine, and I'm sure many others are too, but I would be pretty upset if I was getting some of the issues other people mentioned such as rattling drivers or whatever. Especially after waiting so long to get them in the first place. I would have expected the QC and testing to have caught this stuff before they shipped off.
The AKG K702 65th have a steel supported headband, better cabling and a better connection for the 3 prong connector. The sound is about the same, but the 65th's have better highs (this may be due to the fact that I have been using it for the past 2 years and it is broken in). But number one issue is poor construction, It has warn labeling and scratches on it. It is a cheap piece of plastic and in my eyes is a $100 set of headphones. I'll be giving these to a friend and keeping my K702 65th.
You were given a large set of pictures to work with to judge the quality, wasn't it obvious the product is plastic? You're completely over exaggerating, yeah the MSRP wouldn't have been $650, almost every retailer puts on a high MSRP and claims the price has been cut down. This is to be expected. $200 for these cans are a fair price, even if it is plastic.
Go ahead and keep listening to your K702 65th Editions, I have no idea why you even considered buying this. It seems like you're just trying to justify yourself for having bought the K702 75th Annie's for such a high price in comparison to this, can't blame you there.
Going by msrp is a waste of time. How much did you spend for your Annies?
The Annies look like plastic as well on some parts to be fair, but they are not and that is why I gave it the benefit of the doubt to the 7xx. Additionally, if someone is going to tote an MSRP equal to that of the MSRP of another line of headphones they sell then you imagine it would be the same build quality, would you not? When the Annies came out 2 years ago their MSRP was $650, so saying that the 7xx is equal to that makes no sense. It was good marketing on MassDrops part and I tip my hat to them, but fool me once and I stop buying from you. Same goes for AKG on signing of on this piece of plastic. So feel free to boast that it was a good deal, but honestly as I stated these are only worth $100 maybe $150 at the most. I did give them to a neighbor and he was excited, but I am none less annoyed. Good day sir.
dude, what.the.fuck. simmer down and listen to some music on your BRAND NEW HEAPHONES
If you bothered to check the head-fi thread right before this started, you would've seen that the users there were saying these would be a cheaper, made in China 65th Anniversary K700s. They're still good, especially for someone who wasn't able to get those specific ones and is not willing to pay 400+ that they are now.
It did not see the thread on head-fi and I should have doubled check. However, me saying that I think that they were a terrible purchase shouldn't affect your thoughts on the matter. If you think they are a good buy then kudos to you. Also, it does seem like I am lucky not to receive one that rattles (which is a testament to the poor build quality).
"Following the success of the Q701 drop in June, we asked AKG if we could configure our own edition of the K702 65th"
Based on the product description, it is not unreasonable to have assumed these would have the same build quality as the 702s, and frankly, given the level of complaint so far, the information given to us was nothing if not fraudulent.
Id love it if someone with a proper test setup could check the transducer matching to see how well that holds up.
