View Full Discussion Ok, I've listened to my pair (#312) for several hours in many genres and I have to say that these are by far the best sounding headphones I've ever heard. My previous experience with hi-fi headphones was Sony MDR-1R, Sony MDR-1RBT, Ultimate Ears Super.Fi 5 Pro and Sony MDR-7506, and I prefer the sound of these most of all. Details and soundstage are excellent, and to my ears, the bass is perfect.
I've tested using the sound files shared here for the rattling, and report no issues (and see no wires sticking out of the socket). Lastly, I should add that I'm running these through the Schitt Modi/Vali stack. It takes a little more juice to drive these than my Sony MDR-1RBTs, but still plenty of head room. Surprisingly, they still sounded pretty good coming direct out of my iPod classic (not sure if that has a better amp than the iPhones and other models of iPod).
Feel really bad for folks who are having issues with either not receiving or rattling, but wanted to add my comments, to balance out the negative (which are hopefully in the minority; so hard to tell with so many sets still awaiting receipt).
I agree. These easily outperform all other sub-$300 open and closed headphones I have tried/owned including akg k550/q701, ath-mm50x, sennheiser momentum over ears, sony mdr-1r/mdr-xb700/mdr-v6, vmoda m100/m80, ultrasone pro500/pro900, and logitech ue600. The Oppo PM-1 and HE-560 do definitely have better sound quality, but the improvements were much smaller than I expected. Sound quality of the K7xx are quite excellent. The bass rattling issue does sound unfortunate for those unlucky to have issues, but it seems like only a minority of headphones have been affected. If the bass rattling as you worried, massdrop does have a track record of excellent customer service for defective products and the product has a two year warranty, so I think people with any issues will be well taken care of :) Will probably just take a lil bit of time. Cheer & happy holidays!!
