I have the HE-560 & I love it. sonically it is an upgrade against the K7xx, but of course with this hobby, you start hitting insane diminishing returns as you move up the price ladder. sound signature is very neutral & actually quite similar to the k7xx, so if you enjoy the k7xx, i think you will like the he-560s. comfort on the he-560 is better than the k7xx due to the larger angled earpads.

that is really great to know. can you compare the bass? does HE560 has it's superior tight, deep and textured bass as planar hp's tend to have? And can you make a comparison of the soundstage of K7xx and HE-560? (Q701 has bigger soundstage i guess) Also, do u have Q701/K702 pads to compare to HE-560's pads depth and size? I would really like to see a detailed comparison of K7XX and HE-560 ;)

no longer have the q701 to compare.
yes, I think the he560 does have better bass quality & a larger sound stage, but the difference is more subtle. overall sonics of the he560 is definitely an improvement imo, but the akg k7xx does achieve 70-85% of the he560's performance. most noticeable sonic difference from my listening comparisons is the voicing of the vocals. just want to reemphasize that there is pretty large diminishing returns as you move up the price ladder, so don't be expecting huge sonic gains.
I can post earpad measurements: akg 7xx earpad depth is ~0.75in, diameter ~2.75in. he-560 focuspad earpad depth is 0.45in to 0.9in (as they are angled), diameter is 2.25in

Thank you, kind sir! :) I've measured ~8in of depth on K7XX, and 0.7 to 1.2in on Q701 angled pads respectively.
Yes, i do understand how this hobby works, so i'm not hoping to hear leaps of improvement in soundquality. But it's again, can be very subjective thing. and i am really starving for those last 20 to 30 percent of improvements and also curious about different sound presentation. Have you ever experienced HD800 sound? Would u consider it nobrainer if u could find a new pair for 750 bucks?
I do like bass quantity on K7XX but i kind of missing that bass tightness and clarity of Q701 and wide soundstage. Well, i guess you cant have it all in one hp. Thats why i am keeping them both.

ya, the measurements can be off a bit depending on how the pads have been conpressed & manufacturer variations.
i have demoed the hd800. they are nice too. $750 for them new is a better price than i have ever seen for them, so yes. shld buy! lemme kno where u found tat deal, i wld prob pick one up too hahah.
i think the he560 has the clarity and bass quality better than the akg k7xx & q701. i do rmb the q701 had an abnoramlly large l-r sound stage, so not sure if the he560 wld b bigger, but the he560 is very good.

It's in only one local store here. :) I was also surprised by their price. U see, ppl around here don't actually know anything about quality sound and when it comes to headphones they only heard about beats by dre, so real hp's are overlooked, nobody buys them beside pro's and pro's prefer sturdy and relatively cheap DT770's and etc. No one going to buy 1500$ hp here. That's why they've dropped price so low i imagine. But who knows, i should actually go there some day and ask about it, and if it's recent revision (which as i read is sound little different to earlier rev. ). We also have official dealer of Beyers here and their prices here for top models as low as i've ever seen on the internet. For example T1 and T5p both cost 943$ and T90 - 460 $.
