How do these compare with the Q701 (Austria) and/or the HD700?
Depends mostly how you like the sound signature. To me the bass on K7XX with the memory foam earpads just sounds too muddy, as opposed to the tight bass from the Q701s with the regular pads.
The sound between the Q701 and K7XX seem very similar when using the same pads, a lot more similar than K701 vs Q701 anyways. So my personal pick is using K7XX with the Q701 pads since the bumps on the Q701 headbands are terrible.
On another note, my Austria and China Q701s sound the same as far as I can tell. It doesn't seem like when comparing the black vs silver driver HD650s that actually sounded different because of when they were made.
I think a majority of people would prefer K7XX over Q701 though, similar to how most people prefer HD650 over HD600.
i heard the q701 were very bright/warm with inclinations that they would be best used for listening to music to accentuate voice, wood winds, strings. So more of classical music, and anything voice oriented soul, r&b, gospel. Though they are nice headphones and im sure capable of playing any form of music, i am just stating this because they may not necessarily play said music how one may want it to....but again they should excel at above listed genre...where as k7xx are perfect for fps gaming for one matter, and they are obviously bass oriented given the 3db bass boost over the k712/702 anniversary if anything a hybrid between the two. Im guessing im going to get that kind of animal K712/702 annie hybrid sound signature with +3db bass boost, i could definitely imagine a muddy bass if it is hooked up to a non transparent setup, as well as utilizing a 3db bass boost via amp on top of the implicit implementation, though if this is the case that is the proof that these are not "bass cans" but more like a vanilla mixture with a bit of spice thrown in the spice being the 3db bass boost over the "re used drivers". Either way when i saw the k7xx i knew they were "my" ideal headphones perfect for my listening tastes, a very practical solution to spending way more for what is out there. Im currently circling if i should get a second pair to mod, because id rather spend ~400$ for 2 sets of cans(1 being modded) than the hd 600s/650s
