Hello, I just joined, primarily for the audiophile products. Looking at purchasing the NHT C3 speakers for our new living room. Space is about 15 feet wide by 33 long and they will fire long ways. Space is just for general listening, music room with all equipment is downstairs, so hoping they will fill it with sound nicely. Cheers.

I don't know about the Limited Edition K7XX, but the K712 service documentation is available at http://www.akg.com/pro/p/k712pro and it contains the part numbers for the K612 and K712 headbands.
In case of the white K701 you might want to go with the gray K612 headband (part number 2458M10010). The headband comes with pre-assembled sliders and basically ends with a rubber band on each side. At least my K712 headband did. If you're fine with having some dark sliders on your white headphone, you have to open both ear cups (tricky, if you do it for the first time), unhook the old headband and replace it with the new one.
If you want to keep your K701's white sliders, you have to take them apart. Be aware, that tutorials on the internet are most likely outdated. The locking knobs (with the AKG logo) may not just snap off as described, because they're either pretty stuck or glued and must be drilled out. Besides that they're prone to breaking, even if they're not glued. So you may want to get some spares for the K701 locking knob (AKG logo, part number 2458Z4411) and related cover (CE logo, part number 2458Z4602), too. I had a lot of trouble with these, so my advice is to don't even try to open them and directly drill them out.
Also note that the K612 is a "professional" headphone, while the K701 is a "consumer" headphone. At least in Germany there are two different service providers for professional and consumer headphones ... and the related spare parts. If you're out of luck, you have to order the headband and the locking knobs from different locations.
Having a flat headband is definitely worth the effort, however it could be easier (and cheaper?) to buy a "Made in China" K702 or K7XX.
edit: Hmmm, on the other hand, the K500 or K501 headbands (gray, part number 2458Z2102 or black, part number 2458Z3501) could also be an option:
But in that case, one would also require 2x parts for the outer slider (part number 2458Z1701), 2x parts for the inner slider (part number 2458Z1801) and 4x screws (part number 0099N1801). Interesting; I have to get myself some broken K50x and K701 headphones ... and a screwdriver ... and a paper-clip. ;)
edit2: Ooops, missed the part number for the K50*'s actual rubber band which should be 2458M0501. However I can barely decipher it - the scan I googled is quite low-res.
Anyway, this is my Q701 with a K12 headband
For my personal taste it's a little too much black and I really miss the silver flaps on the sides. But no more headaches! I looking forward to an AKG spare parts drop ... _with_ international shipping, of course. ;-)
All that said, I'd love to do group buys on mod supplies, make a poll and post the link here. That said, I've already spent a bunch of time trying to source soldering iron stations and soldering supplies and amazon's your best bet for those.
Also what happened to the last 1000? wasn't there 6000 total? this makes for 5000 only.
Unfortunately there were only 5000 produced for the first edition production run due to a miscommunication. That said, its clear people want the K7XX and we're working to make more available, but these 5000 are the only First Edition units that will be produced.
Nope, probably won't be a V2 for a couple years at least. I'm just making it clear these are the only units that will have first edition branding. It looks like there will be a lot of K7XXs produced but only these units will say First Edition.
