JoshCraigThis is my insight, some years ago I had the original akg k701. At first I liked them. They had extremely clear sound and very open stage, but I always wanted more bass and I am not a bass head. I sold them and a couple or years later I was missing the akg signature sound and I got the Q 701. Not totally convinced I sold them as well. Just recently, last year to be more specific, I had a chance to listen to the 712 pro and I was amazed with the sound. I said to myself, akg finally made it. The only problem was the price they gave to the 712. I know they sound better than the k701 and q701 in my opinion, but I thought they were a little to expensive for being practically the same headphones. Then I saw this deal in massdrop for the 7xx and I place the order. I got the 7xx a couple of days ago and let me tell you, they are the same as the 712 pro, just with a slightly different name and slightly different color. I have never heard the 65h anniversary but from what I have read the 7xx, 712pro and the 65th anniversary are the same, only that the 7xx and the 712 pro have memory foam instead of regular foam. I am absolutely happy with this purchase, no rattled as other have reported. If someone is contemplating the idea of getting the 65th anniversary or the 712 pro, I would get the 7xx, no doubt about that.
Massdrop and akg really made it right with this deal. They where able to get the best of all akg 7 series, sound, comfort and looks (I love the all black headphones) for only $200.
Happy, happy, happy. This is very well invesed money!

Krakenthere is a significant difference in sound between the headhpones, but it's not due to burn in. I bought a 65th anniversary again to check. This is what i found. Treble is hightened, don't know exactly why, but : 1. May have added slight treble boost, 2. The construction is less airy than the k702 annies. E.G

K702 annies are open to a point where you can see the drivers from the outside, whereas, the K7xx are closed off in this aspect.

KrakenMy primary use is gaming, so i was less concerned with bass, mostly just being able to wear them for hours and a big soundstage.
