Overall I am disappointed in these headphones. The cups are too shallow for my ears and personally I think my HD 558s sound significantly better. Since the 558s are half the price I don't recommend getting these.
The K7XX are supposedly really hard to drive. The general consensus is you need an amp to make them reach full potential. Which means shelling anywhere between another 50-200 dollars. But you did research like a smart customer and knew this coming in right?
Also to all the others complaining about shipping... seriously is this the first time you ever ordered anything online? Holy crap guys, calm down. The world isn't gonna end because you haven't received tracking number, shipping estimation, etc etc.
I have ordered stuff online more times than I could ever hope to count. That's why I know shipping something to me via surepost or smartpost gives the best chance of said things arriving messed up or not at all. I would be prepared to pay a premium to guarantee ups ground or better shipping.
Ah sorry, I was referencing more to the people complaining about missing estimation shipping dates (seriously there was a fricken snowstorm) or minor things such as no info displaying for their tracking number since UPS can't update their site so quickly.
If I remember correctly, you can upgrade the package to UPS Ground if you have a UPS account and save a day on shipping. I probably should have done that because now it will arrive tmrw and I'll be out of the house all day with work and a hockey game to attend. I hope no one takes my K7XX. :/
I went right to the post office and picked it up once the tracking info changed to delivered to local post office. Now I can be worry free about tomorrow.
Yes I have the sound blaster Zx sound card and an e10k usb dac. The bass on the AKGs is deeper, but the HD558 is much clearer and the bass punches harder in some ways.
The sound card is my daily driver and is supposed to be able to power headphones up to 600ohm (which I don't believe), but none of my headphones get anywhere near that.
The Sennheisers have had more burn in, but the AKGs prolly have about 40hrs now. I keep expecting the AKGs to clean up, but the only thing that has noticeably improved is the bass response.
