Will the Fiio E7/E9 combo be enough to power these?
Thanks!

RP888I looked up reviews on your products and people were using high impedence headphones with them. They seem to have no issues powering headphones up to 300ohms. So you should be fine because the AKG K7xx are 60ohms. Keep your set up for now if it works! There are products out there that can change details on what you hear in the headphones like getting amps with tubes to make the sound warmer. But I think ultimately it comes down to how you like to listen to your music. These headphones are relatively neutral and your E7 gives you plenty of options to alter what you hear as the DAC and when paired with your E9 you can hear more details without blowing your ears off. Eventually upgrading would be nice if you plan to record your own music and want to have clarity when you listen as you edit. But if you're pretty casual and like listening to music but would like good gear head over to head-fi. They can have lists and forums to help guide you into planning a little upgrade down the line.

CadosCados - thanks so much for taking the time to reply. I'm using these headphones directly with my iphone 5. A friend of mine advised that i don't need an amp/dac for these headphones if i'm using it with the iphone and that i won't be able to hear much of a different. Do you agree with his assessment?
Thanks again!

RP888Mm I don't agree with your friend. You would have to crank up the volume really high on your iphone volume at max settings to hear be details these head phones are supposed to bring out cause iPhone's dac isn't that great for headphones with more that 15 ohms of impedence. iPhones are also not the best with music playback anyways..if I were you and you have some money left over look into getting a fiio x1 ($99-120 depending on color, best bang for your buck in digital audo player) and pair it with an e11k ($59) as an amp. The dac on the x1 is great and paired with the amp you will hear everything the way you were meant to. Granted I am talking about complex music like Mozart with various instruments playing and you suddenly can hear more strings in the background like you discovered a new layer of music or even mellow acoustic music that is so subtle and light you need headphones that dont destroy the details with too much bass. Or even jazz music that flows all over the place but it becomes pleasant sounding and not screechy. If you listen to a lot of electronic that needs bass you can alter the bass on the x1 equalizer then boost with the amp. Thats why you need gear to accompany the headphones or they will sound very neutral but also thin and almost hallow because the iphone can barely power it to its full potential. Also the in ear heaphones that people usually use with iphones have impedence of like 15ohms or less so those can be plug and play and your set. Those headphones don't need much power which is also why if you crank the volume high on them your ears start to hurt and the sound becomes distorted. Where as with the AKG K7xx when you amplify their sound, music becomes fuller and more immersive.

Cadosthis is really helpful. Last question. If my set up is the AKG, E7/E9, and an iphone. In your opinion, is the E7/E9 worth buying if i'm using it exclusively with the iphone?
Thanks again

RP888If you are going to use your iphone only then the E7 is more enough because it is a dac/ amp. You dont need the E9 to amplify your iphone further and it isn't very portable. If you are going to listen to music on your computer however then you can use the E9 as the amp and E7 as your dac while also charging the E7 when the battery is low.
