Do these have a wider soundstage than the Sennheiser HD598's ?
Also keen to know this, as I have a pair of HD598SE's, but have always wanted a pair of AKG K7XX.
I have both HD598se and K7xx (still burning in, probably used for 40hrs). To me they feel very different sonically.
HD598 feels relaxed, has a wide sound stage and the vocals jump at you and the rest blend into the background. It's more like the feeling you get when you focus on the singer when a music plays on tv; sure the other instruments are still playing but they disappear in a blissful way. I prefer these for jazz music, for instance.
In K7xx I can feel the sound stage more because it lets you focus on things other than vocals also. It definitely has more clarity too. It's a little harsh to me at this point. I am hoping that it will settle down after a couple of hundred hours of play time. These are my go to's for movies as i want them to sound spacious without focussing too much just on dialogue.
To answer your question, they both have a great sound stage. Given that one would pick one over the other based on how you're going to use it. I personally prefer K7xx over hd598 due to its improved clarity.
Thank you very much for the detailed information!
Don't bother, there are better & less expensive cans out there
