Just got them and started a listening session. Here is my feedback to the community.
1) They look awesome.
2) My ears are getting a bit warm with the velour ear pads but not uncomfortably so.
3) The headband puts more pressure on the top of my head than my MDR-V6's. I am 6'3" and don't have an unusually large head. So comfort was a disappointment.
4) Sound is good. I am hoping they will get better after burn in. Using LG V10 which has a good DAC built in.
Thanks for the feedback mate !
What about the soundstage ? Is it as amazing as some people describe it ?
And concerning the bass section, does this 3dB bass-boost is worth it or still pretty flat ? (Of course i mean for an open back headphone, i do not expect these to be bass heavy)
I have been searching for some music to really stretch them. MP3s don't do these cans justice.
I found a 96kHz/24bit flac Bohemian Rhapsody. That was when the soundstage started to show itself. The piano at the start had more... something. I heard more of it. And it sounded more natural.
hdtracks.com has a free sample download of 15 high bitrate songs. "Dancing for the Oceans" has some natural ocean sounds at the start. THAT is when you can really hear it. The female voice was also much more natural. I keep saying "natural" but that is the only way I can describe it. Fuller and natural. My MDR-V6's sounded great but the K7XX brings out mid to high range better without overwhelming. I think the sound stage must show up more in the mids to highs.
The soundstage doesn't slap you in the face. The fact that I had to search for tracks that exposed it means I won't notice it most of the time. Overall the sound is really nice.
I do think I am going to find a cobbler to sew a new leather head strap. Maybe sheep or deer leather with a little more length to put less pressure on the top of my head.
I forgot to mention... I am using an EQ to boost the bass and drop the mid range a bit. I barely touched the upper range. This was for listening to ED and techno. The bass had a good punch.
i set the EQ to flat and listened to a variety of music. They sound good but I think I will prefer boosting the bass a little more. From what I read, closed backs enhance the bass but muffle the sound a little when compared with open backs. So boosting the bass on K7XX is probably bring them up to normal headphone level. (my guess)
Thank you very much for these precisions, it really helps a lot !
I guess now i just got to try these by myself ahah
