Is the soundstage on these good enough for gaming?
The soundstage is most likely wider than what you are currently using. However, some feel that the thinner bass is not ideal for games with lots of explosions like battlefield.
If you want an amazing Soundstage, along with great surround sound, you should look into the Sennheiser GSX1000. I picked it up after seeing after review on Hardware Canucks. I use a set of closed back Blue headphones, and that amp makes it hard to believe that I'm even hearing the sound through headphones. Quite a few times I'd hear something in game and take off an ear cup because I thought the sound came from something in the room.
I play battlefield and other FPS games with these. I prefer them to my M50s for 2 reasons:
-Comfort: I can wear these for hours
-Soundstage: Pick out the direction of gunfire easily
They do require a quiet room, though. The open back leaks sound.
I currently use the Sennheiser HD558, would you know how that compares by any chance?
Unfortunately I have never demoed the 558.
