I'm not a professional headphone reviewer, nor am I someone who listens primarily through headphones. I got a set of these through MassDrop that have red metal pieces (woohoo). I can tell you that these are my favorite headphones to listen through. They actually image outside your skull. Or seem to. They're perceptually neutral. (If you do research you'll find that to be perceptually neutral, headphones need to have a response that doesn't look at all neutral. No surprise - we're biological beings, perception isn't a measurement instrument.) They're also crazy comfortable. Not saying they're my favorite or most used personal listening devices - a couple pairs of CIEMS are my main listening devices since I'm often in noisy environments. But if I could have a sound signature no matter what the background noise was, it'd be these. And I've got some headphones that are much higher MSRP than these.
My only grumpy response is that I'd so love to have the same sound characteristics and qualities without the enormous size of these headphones. However, I'd also like to be 27 years old again. Physics and time are hostile masters.
These are great headphones for listening deep and happy into music when there's not a lot of background noise, and no one near you who could object. Closed back over ear, closed back on ear, blah blah blah are all actually very useful in specific situations. I've got favorites in each category. In conclusion - I sold three pairs of open back headphones after I got these.
Would you say they are as good as the HD650 from Senheiser?
