I finally got a chance to listen to my new K7XXs. Compared to my other go-to cans (HifiMan HE-400 othrodynamics) these things shine in different ways and are a great complimentary pair. Very, very comfortable. Light without feeling cheap. Good bass and nice treble, good separation even without an amp. I'm really enjoying these and can't imagine anything competing with these for the price.

they all made in China with occasionally special edition that may still made in Austria. that being said, don't expect the top of the line quality control on these cans. mine came in with dings on the metal loop. yep, no idea how that happened but it feels like the metal loop just got cut by something a little. both stickers on the inside just poorly placed that i just pulled it out instead. and the two little plastic that hold the leather strap on each end, oh boy, looks like it got bent on one side before it got put on. fortunately i didn't hear the rattle or i will be piss. it seems to me that akg just slap on two stickers and called it limited edition.
as for the sound go, quite disappointing to be honest (before anyone jump in, k7xx been burn in close to 80 hrs already and the m80 well over 300hrs). i have a pair of v-moda m80. not the best thing in the world but when it compare to the k7xx. i found it k7xx being a little more open than the m80 due to open back nature. i don't like the fact that k7xx have more bass than the m80 which i think is really good for what i listen to. basically a slightly better version of the m80 with heavier bass (than why don't i get the v-moda m100 or the xs instead without all the care the k7xx needed?) . don't get me wrong, both have really tight and control bass, but k7xx just present more than the m80, which got me thinking, is it necessary? or just to push the sale more?
i would definitely won't bring this outside as 1) i don't want to force others listen to what i'm listen to. 2) these cans seems fragile because of the two tiny metal loops and the little plastic that hold the leather strap. not worth the risk.

nothing special neither. and for anyone really, really worry about their amp can push this cans or not. worry not, if i can drive the 990 dt 600ohms with or without amp just fine. this little k7xx 62ohms shouldn't be any issues with anyone with any amp. don't make it sounds like this cans is a power hog when it definitely not the case.
and if you can get the k712 for cheap, skip the k7xx and grab it. you won't regret it.
