So, i have been drooling over these, but i am still not sure if i should pull the trigger.
Right now, i have a set of Sennheiser HD558, and i enjoy the sound, but i always find myself wondering how much i could do better. Anyone's thoughts on how these cans might compare to my current set?
For what its worth, my source is my S6, and Creative E5 DAC (actually, will be, as it is still on the way..)..

Divine_MadcatI have the big-brother to the HD558 (595s) and demo'd the k712s at a meet (similar), my general expectation would be the K7XXs would be that they are a much more neutral headphone; markedly more revealing, especially as far as instrument separation. 558s will feel a bit.. looser, but give a bit more of a 'thump' while being a tad more comfortable. (the Senn house sound is a bit warm and the headphones just disappear on your head once you break in the band, IIRC )
Worthy upgrade? Probably; but what you listen to would be the ultimate determinate of what you'd like the most.

Divine_MadcatHd558 is very good for the money, I think the biggest initial difference you will notice is the midbass, treble, and subbass. The hd558 rolls off the higher treble, has a slightly boosted midbass that gives it a warm sound, and the bass starts rolling off at 100hz until it disappears down around 30hz. It also starts to get a little loose, or less controlled in the sub bass.
The k7xx on the other hand, has a more linear bass that manages to keep going until it starts rolling off at 40hz, then rolls off down past 20hz at the limits of human hearing. The bass is also more tightly controlled and detailed. The treble should be similar as it does not lose volume at the extremes like 16000hz and 17000 hz.
I still have the hd558, but the sub bass is what drove me to start upgrading.
