Does anybody know how these compare to the K712 Pro as a reference for home studio music production purposes?
I understand they are very close in sound and build except for the drivers, but I am not clear just how much of a difference there is in the drivers. Right now I'm not clear just what one gets for an extra $200 as both cans are plastic and have the same pads and tuning and are identical except for the drivers as I mentioned and the color. The K7xx is made in China and the K712pro is supposedly made in Slovakia, but I am starting to have doubts as to the veracity of that of that claim as I don't see that having a huge effect on the headphones (also seeing that the majority of cans appear to be made in China, including the high-end ones. It's just the way things are done now days).
Supposedly? The K712 is made Slovakia. It says so right on the headphones themselves.
Well, do we really know? I'm not sure it really matters though if they sound good and last a few years.
You're carrying your skepticism a bit too far
Perhaps, but I'm a hard-wired skeptic. I'm having faith that these cans are going to be delightful and I don't see why not, I just don't trust AKG personally...well ok, I don't trust corporations at all.
