I listen to closed-back headphones at work all day since I share an office. I've listened to my AKG K7XX a few times at home, but hadn't really had a deep listening session, and I always had them plugged directly into a phone or tablet.
Last night I plugged them into my Geek Out V2 DAC+amp and laptop and had an amazing listening session. I don't know if the amp made the difference or what, but it was a total eargasm. I considered plugging them directly into the laptop to see how much difference the amp was making, but I just didn't want the experience to end, so I never got around to it. The K7XX sounds amazing -- natural, wide open soundstage, fantastic imaging, and surprising bass extension. I was listening quite loud and did not experience any ear fatigue or harshness. I'm listening to some of the same music today at my desk with more expensive gear, but I miss the big soundstage and open sound of the K7XX that I had last night.
I'm really impressed with the K7XX. They are just amazing for the modest price. It makes me want to try more open-back headphones, too.
What kind of music do you listen to?
