Looking at these for my daughter. Are they a reasonable match for iphone 6 or ipad pro, without separate amp? Thanks.

jewel942..there a lot of other headphones out there that would fit better to your daughter (imho). Check for e.g. German Teufel Aureol Real with 10 years guarantee...

jewel942to answer you question, yes. The impedance is plenty low enough to get decently loud volume with those devices.

jewel942Koss Portapro - Great sound, easy to carry, and spare foam can be bought cheap on eBay. I have lots of headphones for different uses including studio. For outside, Koss is my favorite. An important point is that they are not closing the ambient sound out, so you can hear traffic and other dangers which I would say is important, for even kids;)
Cheers :)

jewel942Portapros are cheap and, for the money, sound great. Don't you find them unbearably uncomfortable though? An hour with them is enough, regardless of the tension setting.

jewel942She likes on ear style. We've tried a bunch on at Magnolia/ Best Buy. Dislikes mini cans like the Koss or in ear, and over ear are too heavy. Will be used at home and in the car only. Not outdoors.
Also she would never go for the look of the Koss, not the most attractive set...
Joined the drop so will see if they work for her. If not I'll just use them.

FaunsceWhich headphones? I was speaking about the vast majority of over ear being too heavy for my daughter.

ScoopsUKNo, not at all. I feel them very comfortable. I can wear them all day long without taking them off for a second. Maybe you are wearing them the wrong way? I have seen plenty of people doing that. The headband can also be widened by stretching them a bit. Be sure to have the headband so short that the plastic that holds the dome does not touch your ear. The foam wears out over time, and there are some sharp plastic pins under to hold the foam in place. These pins my poke your ear (very uncomfortable) when the foam wears out. 6 new foams (cushions) cost less than $5 from Amazon.com. You can also buy soft leather cushions from eBay, but have not tried them.
Cheers :)

jewel942Technically, these aren't on-ear, these are over-ear, on ears rest on your ears while over-ears cover them completely and rest on the headband/around the ears, the Koss portapros would be on-ear
These should be fine for use at home and in car
iPhone/iPad should be sufficient enough to power these at decent listening levels

jewel942My definition of over ear is surround the ear and completely sealed. The AKGs don't completely cover my big ears although they probably would cover my daughter's ears; I think of them as large on ear. (I had K701s a couple years ago- stolen from my car 😠 so familiar with the basic design.)

jewel942On the smaller side, maybe Sennheiser PX 100-ii. Sound quality and comfort are great, price range is same as these headphones, and they don't weigh anything. I own the previous generation, easily wear them for 3-4 hours, and have loved them for most of a decade. Also, super portable and great volume with phones/ipods.

scnerdThanks for the tip. If she doesn't like the AKGs, I will include these in the next round of looking.
