Just got mine today. Not happy with them AT ALL. PLEASE tell me someone owns a pair of these plus a pair of Sennheiser Amperior headphones to compare?
The sub bass on the Q701's is absolutely atrocious. Not only is the sub bass of poor sound quality and interferes with the vocals (listen to Waka Flocka Flame - No Hands ft. Roscoe Dash & Wale, sounds like they're singing in a bathtub underwater right?) it also clips at VERY low volume, especially around 30hz (my favourite frequency!). I mean my Sen Amp's I can have pretty much bouncing off my ears and they don't clip. When I listen to No Hands on the Sen Amp's the vocals are crystal clear and the only clipping I hear is my ear lobes flapping against the ear cups. No such fun on the Q701's.
I read about removing that sticker over the port to enhance the bass but I'm worried about this for two reasons:
1. It would probably allow the speaker diaphragm to move easier hence would clip even sooner than it does now and
2. I think the left part of my Q701's is defective so I don't want to modify them at all for now. When I play the song "Direct - Scars (ft Devin Santi)" there is a rattling noise in the left speaker starting around the 34 second mark, doesn't really matter how loud I have it (so I don't think it's clipping) and doesn't do it with my Sen Amp's.
The soundstage is horrible as well! Playing Michael Jackson - Black or White (24bit/96khz vinyl rip flac) on my Sen Amp's when the father pounds on the door around the 24 second mark you SNAP your head around to see if someone is pounding on the door behind you. On the Q701's it just sounds so flat, no dimension to the sound at all.
And last but not least the brights. The Q701's are SUPER bright. I thought my Sen Amp's were too bright when I first got them but I swapped out the stock china tube on my Aune T1 with a Russian Voskhead 6N27p and they are silky smooth up top now. To think I'd have to go with an even warmer tube for me to like the Q701's up top is crazy.
The true sub bass quality test? Run the free software SweepGen by David Taylor. Set to Custom, 30hz to 4000hz, Sweep Speed to Manual, adjust volume accordingly, click Start.
Sen Amp's: flawless ear hair tickling 30hz sound waves penetrate directly to your brain.
Q701's: sounds like someone farting in a jar, and at anything above a whisper sound level it clips like a wet fart in a jar.
So disappointed :(

toysareforboysDid you try letting it burn in? People often say these improve over time.

ZALHERANo, I literally just hooked them up. Is there a trick to burning them in properly?

toysareforboysLots of opinions on how to do a burn in. Some say pink noise or whatever color noise, others say just let your library play for X amount of hours. My suggestion is just let it play your library. You can do your own research and may reach a different conclusion, but I personally cannot be bothered trying to set up a super scientific way to burn in the drivers. Bottom line is over time, as the drivers get used, they improve. So let them drivers get worked. ;D
Burn in time varies, but people say these need like between 100-300 hours of burning in. I'd say just keep using them and listen to the changes over time.
