In the S-6 Studio Reference IEM from Akoustyx, they both come together in a pair of high-performing earphones ideal for the reference listener. As far as the planar magnetic drivers go, the S-6 takes its cues from some of the top headphones out there, in that it employs magnets on front and rear sides of its membrane to generate sound waves. For many listeners, this yields a more detailed and balanced sound with measurably better sensitivity versus single-sided magnet designs. Augmenting this design in the S-6 is Akoustyx’s proprietary tuning, which was developed with a meticulous studio-reference methodology to produce a ultra-transparent frequency curve extending from 10 hertz all the 44 kilohertz.
