Dear future readers: My chair arrived two days ago, I've spent the past two days subjecting it to high use. Here's a brief common-man's-first-impressions as somebody coming from a $60-on-sale Staples-brand office chair.
tl;cba This is a quality product with a few minor gripes that are pretty easily overcome. Read on if you care for details a/o griping.
Any complaints you may have read about FedEx and heavy shipments, carry them through to here because they're all true. I got my box with a hole in one wall that looked like somebody took a crowbar to it. Thankfully the guys at AKRacing wrap the hell out of this thing because my chair was completely undamaged. Props.
Assembly was essentially the same as any other computer chair, so if you've ever bought an office chair in a box from Staples you can stumble through putting this together. This is good because the included instructions aren't the best. The pictures and text in the one-page assembly pamphlet are really small, and the pictures lack the resolution to really show you what you're doing. I ended up putting the carriage on backwards and having to disassemble and reassemble the whole carriage assembly a few times - the manual claims the carriage has FORWARD printed on it to show where the front is, but I'm assuming that's from a different model, because mine did not have that. There's also no instructions on how to put the lumbar and neck pillows on, so watch a YouTube video first or be prepared to disassemble your chair again.
Thankfully, you only have to (successfully) assemble the chair once.
The bolts everything is held together with are huge, solid steel affairs and very difficult to strip, even if you have to take them out several times (because, say, you were an idiot during construction). The frame is steel with plastic covers to protect you from any exposed surfaces, and both have a very solid, deliberate feel. The casters spin smoothly and freely over most surfaces - I have mine on inch-deep pile carpet and can get in and out of my desk with little effort.
Daily use is another gold star. I thought the 4D armrest adjustment was a gimmick until I tried it. The fact that they're so easy to adjust means you'll end up doing it constantly - and that's where it shines. You can twist your armrests in to use a controller, level them out and raise them to keyboard level to type, shift them both to one side if you tend to lean in your chair - all in under a second. The back adjusts, the whole thing can rock back and forth and can lock mid-rock, the cushioning is thick and plush without sacrificing the sleek look... they thought of everything.
This chair gets a solid recommendation from this random stranger on the internet.
