I have had this chair 3 weeks now. I'm a big man at 6'3 345lbs and wear 48x30 pants. I'm giving this information so that others have an idea on my dimensions. Also, I love purple, went with Indigo and I'm not disappointed at all. I would post a picture of my chair, but it literally looks just like the picture they have listed here on Massdrop.
First, let's start with the shipping of the chair. It came complete and all but one piece was 100%. The seat has the smallest of tears which one of my pics will show and you'll see why I didn't dock a star for something so insignificant. I believe it is the 4th pic in that shows the minor tear.
Putting together the chair was simple enough since I've put them together before. The only thing is the piece that the gas lift connects to didn't have the word 'FRONT' printed anywhere on it and I had to look on the internet to figure out which way the front is. Hopefully, my pic shows it clearly for the next person trying to put the chair together or maybe AKRacing will have the word 'FRONT' printed on that piece.
The chair is on the firm side and I'm ok with this. I've sat in this chair for 6 - 8 hours at a time in multiple seatings and my bottom hasn't felt sore from sitting too long. This seat is 23 3/8" wide in the front and is like that the first 12" of the seat before getting gradually smaller to 20". The seat depth is 20 3/8" from where the back piece connects to the seat to the front of the seat. I feel like I have plenty of leg room in this chair. Meaning, I can have my legs spread as wide as I want to without sacrificing any comfort. I'm loving this lumbar cushion and I really didn't think I would. Give it a chance and move it up and down the chair until you find a comfortable position because I feel it is worth it. The headrest is a bit annoying as it doesn't really stay in place where I want it to. If you are a bit shorter, I think the headrest won't be an issue at all. The base feels like metal and I'm pretty sure that it is. The wheels felt really sturdy.
I feel like the lowest setting is the perfect height for me. Don't worry if you are not as tall as me and I find the lowest setting to be perfect. My bf is 5'10 and it isn't too tall for him. If you are much taller than me, good news, the chair moves a considerable height. From floor to top of seat, it goes from 19 3/8" to 22".
I'm merely making a comparison to another chair for this next bit. My bf has a Serta Smart Layers Jennings Big and Tall chair. It can be found on sale for $229.99 and, I'm guessing, it normally sales at $329.99. I was able to get the AKRacing Max chair for $329.99 from Massdrop and it normally sales for $499.99. Serta is quite a bit softer in the cushion. It's actually too soft for my liking. Between a firm and soft chair to sit in, I'd rather have it a bit firm than one that is a bit soft. This is obviously a personal preference. I also believe that the Serta sits quite a bit lower on its highest setting which is 19" from floor to top of seat.
Below are the pictures I took. I hope this review helps out anybody that is looking at this chair and is wondering if it is a good buy. I think you'll love it!
