All three sizes are much cheaper at KnifeWorks. I thought Drop was supposed to be the place to go to get deals so good you can’t disclose the price publicly. This is lame.

McGruppYeah, I go to massdrop for rare-ish items at a decent price. These days it's basically ebay but prices are higher and shipping is longer. That said, people buy, so you know, whatever sells. For fun and giggles here's a comparison though! This "ultralight knife":
  • standard steel, cheap heat treatment
  • plastic square handle
  • cheap engraving
  • 37gr for 2.7in tiny blade
  • you have to wait a month to get it shipped
  • 44USD+shipping AFTER "discount"
An Opinel number 5, twice lighter for +- same blade length:
  • standard steel, good heat treatment, choice of carbon and stainless steels
  • high quality rounded wood handle
  • good engraving with custom engraving options if you wish
  • 15 gr for a 2.6in tiny blade
  • ships now, available at your corner store
  • 12USD MSRP
For additional giggling, an Opinel number 8, same as above but:
  • <40gr for a 3.75in proper blade
  • various handle engraving options (in addition to the blade)
  • 10USD MSRP
So for the same weight you can get a proper made in France Opinel with a proper usable blade, and you don't even have to wait as your local hardware store probably has it. Or you can get twice lighter with a tiny blade if you want. Or you can get 4 Opinels for the price of this "ultralight" knife. Or you can get a Kershaw that's still better for 25USD. Or.. you can get this crappy plastic knife that isn't light for the size and wait a month AND pay through the nose for it. Ridiculous deal Drop...

kangsterYou're comparing apples to oranges. Opinels are basic carbon steel, no clip, absolutely require two-hand operation, cannot be disassembled/maintained, so on. These al mar models are actually very compelling - a hair over 3 oz. for a four-inch blade with thin stock, 8cr (which, despite what modern knife-snobs will say, is fine for the everyman who doesn't mind sharpening), bearings, an inset lock, FRN (which is both strong, lightweight, and looks like it's molded with decent grip - conjecture, of course). I could go on. Not bad offerings at all, only thing left is for someone to chime in regarding lockup, disengagement, action, ergos, so on.

aman1420The point of this knife is to be "ultralight" not to "have a pocket clip" (hint its in the name) its 2x heavier than the nearest thing you'd call a light knife of the same size and yet is several times the price. Beside I also gave the Kershaw as an example just in case someone made such a comment, since you know, it's the internet. The Opinel is a better all around "ultralight" knife though, because it's among the lightest with good reliable steel - but for the record, you're wrong, Opinels are not "basic carbon steel", at least no more than 8Cr13MoV  would be a "basic cheap steel". You can choose between high carbon steel and stainless steel, but and have a guaranteed high quality heat treatment. These are stainless: https://www.opinel.com/tradition/inox (12C27 modified, specific to Opinel, and what would generally be my choice) These are high carbon: https://www.opinel.com/tradition/carbone (XC90, will rust, but you can sharpen it by looking angry at the blade, would not be my choice) Note that at this size and range it doesn't really matter what you get given they're too small for any harsh task, but neither are expensive steels and Opinel's "inox" is fairly similar to 8Cr13MoV, AUS8, 440A, etc.

kangsterI get you, but a pocket clip is a necessity for me. Especially in the summer with those slippery sports shorts... wish my phone had a pocket clip, because it falls out almost every time I sit in the car! Someday I’ll get an Opinel, just because, but an Al Mar like this was in so many of Nutnfancy’s videos at the height of his popularity that I think people will snap this $44 knife up after the more expensive titanium one was recently featured.

EvshrugFair enough, thought I'd still favor the cheaper Kershaw. Note, you can get 3M-tape-able clips for the phone - and if you don't wanna damage the back of it, a spigen slim case + clip works okay and its still light compared to bulkier cases

kangsterDefinitely appreciate the tips! Is the 3M clip kid of like a command strip hook, in clip form? I wonder if I could place the clip in such a way that it wouldn’t prevent wireless charging... or maybe a grippy tape would be useful enough. Having a larger screened phone has been... educational, hahah.
