Enjoying the great outdoors doesn’t have to mean forgoing every creature comfort. The Alite Mantis is a portable chair that can be easily packed up and taken with you on your next backpacking, camping, or festival outing Read More
I've owned these chairs for several years and the quality is top-notch. I use them all the time and they are so small they fit in my backpack - you can't even tell I have them with me. Here's the issue: the back legs can get stuck inside the main support crossbar and can be very hard to remove. I'm not a very large guy, I weigh about 160 lbs.
After some struggling, I was finally able to free them and found out the one of the smaller "male" supports was freed from it's adhesive and another became wedged within it's "female" counterpart. This happened on both of the chairs I purchased after about 2 years of use. One of the chairs is unusable, and the other will work but will be lopsided. I will reach out to Alite to enact their warranty, but I also want a 3rd chair for my daughter, so I definitely recommend them, it just comes with a word of warning.
I purchased this for bikepacking and keep it in my truck for tailgating. It's a little too low to the ground and a bit unstable compared to Helinox chairs I've tried. I'm going to try to make my own sleeve leg extensions to get it up higher. Construction is top notch though and the seat itself is comfortable.
My experience with the Mantis chair has been nothing but stellar for the short period of time owning it. Just as the Mayfly, (that I also purchased) the Mantis is crafted with near bomb-proof aircraft alminum locking hubs. This is a substantial advantage over every other top tier chair competing with the Mantis & Mayfly which utilize plastic locking hub assemblies that are susceptible to failures. And when weighing overall abuse, field longevity & durability, the fractional weight increase is a no brainer for myself. Lastly, the Fit, Form & Function is spot on and would highly reccomend either chair to anyone serious about back packing or looking for high quality gear. The only difference between the Mayfly (shorter) & Mantis (taller) is their height off the ground.
This chair is so comfortable—-the perfect way to end a day on the trail by the fire. I even purchased a second so my children can fight over it. It’s a bit heavy compared to other options, but well worth it
