At 1.3 pounds, Alite’s classic Monarch chair is the lightest the company has made to date. The aluminum frame, two-legged design, and nylon sling contribute to its slight weight, so you can take it camping Read More
are there any revision to the chairs? I have version one, the ends where it enters the black plastic portion, tends to get pushed back into the main pole.
Bought one of these at REI to try it out. Not much lighter than my Tillak chair and the Tillak is much more comfortable. Its heavier than the zero and the zero has 4 legs and is also more comfortable. If price is your only concern then I guess you can buy a 2 legged uncomfortable chair. I would suggest if you're going to carry a chair make it worth it. Spend a few extra bucks and get something lighter and more comfy.
Hi,
I paid 45€ for this item, I live in Amsterdam, Netherlands and I received a delivery notice specifying I was charged 20,36€ for the delivery, very bad surprise ! I'm posting here since I couldn't find any contact on the website or more specifically in "my transactions" section. Does anyone know if I will get my money back if I don't get my package ?
Regards
This is not correct:
1/ When I ordered there was nothing said about extra fees for delivery, but I've been asked for at the delivery point.
2/ Moreover, it's been now 14 weeks I refused the package, I haven't been refunded yet.
>> can anyone help please? Any tip, process knowledge or after-sales service contact?
Thank you in advance
irisationbest of luck in getting that refund , i was saying “absolutely not “ in response to getting a refund. I dont think you are likely to get one , but good luck.
Great price for the Monarch. I have to say I prefer the Mayfly, though I do sometimes use it just in 'Monarch Mode' (no front leg), but I like to have the option both ways. For those saying it's too much of a nuisance to balance it, it really is minimal effort once you get used to it, and very relaxing to be able to rock. Even when I have the front leg on the Mayfly I tend to be rocking on the back feet more often than not.
One other random tip for the gram-counters (and yes, I know true gram-counters won't be carrying a chair, but personally it's the one luxury I am happy to carry) - the last time I did a long(ish) walk (Hadrians Wall Path) I twigged that I could take the elastic out of my Mayfly and use the two long uprights to replace the frame in my pack (a slightly obscure Nigor Zero G). They are the perfect length and do the job wonderfully - I actually prefer them to the frame that came with my pack which is a tiny bit longer and used to bother my shoulders a bit sometimes. At the end of the day it just takes a second to pull them out of the pack and slot the chair together for maximum relaxation time. :-) ....I'm sure the same could be done with the monarch if the pole lengths happen to be right for your pack (they look a little longer than the Mayfly ones).
Are legs/poles shockcorded (like Helinox chairs) or do you have to assemble it each time (put pole A into slot B)?
Alite website described it as:
"color coded aluminum for easy assembly"
I read a comment below that this is better for lounging than sitting in and doing work. Any one else feel the same way about this chair? Would I be better off getting a four leg chair that I can sit in while cooking?
solBLACKDepends on your work surface height. It does sit quite low, so if your camp stove is on the ground it works well as sort of a squat kickstand. I've had this chair for a couple years and love it. My only gripe is it's low height. Can be interesting to get up/down when you've got wine in one hand and a plate of food in the other. For the price, it's a no-brainer.
I am tempted...so tempted.... Were it not for the new Helinox Zero chair, I wouldn't hesitate. But now I'm in a conundrum over whether to get this Alite Monarch, or wait for the Helinox Zero chair - albeit it's bound to be quite a bit more expensive but I suspect I will prefer the 4 legs and higher seat height. Anyone have both chairs with some thoughts?
EmmaLI don't have this Alite chair, but I tested it at REI and I preferred four-legged chairs.
I have since purchased a Moon Lence chair at ~2lb ($32 on Amazon, almost the same as the Helinox Chair One that retails for $100 but is about $70 right now at discount sites). I also purchased a Helinox Chair Zero (1.1lb) when it was on sale (it retails for $120, I paid $90).
I love both of these chairs. I actually use the Moon Lence a lot at home (as a patio chair, or a chair by the door to sit in whilst putting on shoes). It is larger and thus a bit more comfortable than the Chair Zero (a 6' tall 185lb man finds the Moon Lence comfortable). Since it cost less and is more durable, I'm not worried about overuse at home.
I save the Chair Zero for backpacking. I find it to be comfortable and have adequate room in the seat, but I am a 5'3" 110lb woman, so YMMV. It was so nice on my last trip to bring the chair to the lakeside and have a seat while I was treating water. It made that task enjoyable! I will likely try and cut weight elsewhere in my pack (maybe carry 500ml less water, and stop to treat water more often?) in order to take this "luxury item" with me on all my backpack trips.
I'm actually thinking about buying another Moon Lence chair so both my partner and I can sit on the patio at the same time (we have IKEA patio chairs but these are much more comfortable). Also I bought a collapsible table from them, and had an issue, so I contacted their customer service. I wasn't expecting a good experience (there are a gazillion Chinese companies on Amazon hawking similar chairs), but they really took care of me. In fact it would be awesome if Massdrop could partner with them.
