Allegory Notebook Wallet

Streamline your everyday carry with this notebook wallet from Allegory, a Kickstarter-born Chicago shop dedicated to handcrafted, small-batch manufacturing. Made of supple vegetable-tanned leather, this cover-meets-wallet is designed to hold Field Notes and other comparably sized pocket notebooks. There are four stretchy slots on the right interior for credit cards and business cards, and on one version, a small loop on the top edge that fits Allegory's mini ballpoint pens perfectly.

A year after its 2012 launch, Allegory added a suite of leather goods to its existing line of pens. To produce these leather products, Allegory works directly with a tannery in Ecuador, where eco-friendly farming practices are paramount. Vegetable tanned and waterproofed, the leather is built to age well and show character over time. Still, it’s easy to restore to like-new condition with a quick treatment of neatsfoot oil.

Allegory is dedicated to making products from smart-sourced, sustainable materials. The ancient kauri wood used in the company's pens is more than 50,000 years old. The oldest workable wood in the world, it shows just the earliest signs of petrification, with the small veins of mineral deposits giving the barrel a beautiful, luminescent grain. The bog oak pen is made from a material that’s been preserved underneath peat bogs since the dawn of the last ice age more than 5,000 years ago. With age, the wood has developed a deep black color with dark brown grain. Finally, the company sources its teak from IndoTeak Design, who salvages the highest-quality teak without any damage to the environment. No trees are cut down as a result of their work. Instead, the wood is saved from 100- to 300-year-old structures in Indonesia that would otherwise be demolished.
