From the MD email: “... and now it makes its debut in solid nickel”

Um - no. According to the specs, it’s (electroless) nickel plated aluminum.

Pass.
billcMassdrop error, not the product itself.

PretentiousPreventionsPerhaps. But I don’t see a nickel plated pen as worth this kind of money. Solid nickel would have been absolutely unique. It makes the email look like a come-on.

billcAight. The reason for these costs with this dude are because they are essentially pocket jewelry. His machining is top notch and its like having a work of art on you. Great materials, great machining, great finish. I understand though.

PretentiousPreventionsis there anyway to repair the plating if it chips ?
AlexMares50Not sure but you can contact the maker at darksucks. Com
AlexMares50The plating does not chip :) Electroless Nickel (not to be confused with electrolytic nickel) is a flexible amorphous coating that does not chip or flake. We have been using it for almost 10 years.
Prometheus LightsNice to know, thanks.

PretentiousPreventionsumm $140 is still pretty aggressive. look up Caran D'Ache Ecridor Rollerballs or their fountain pens. if you wait for the major pen shops to have a sale, the RB's can be close to this price or lower. like swiss watches, these swiss made pens are some of the best quality metal barrel pens you can get. not to mention their standard stuff is silver plated with rhodium now which is more of a premium material. these ecridors are a real work of art, imo this is too "tacticool" to be seen as pocket jewelry. heck for this price you can get some of the nice big brand fountain pens mass drop gets, like those montegrappas.
DocZZZI'd disagree. This is one of the loveliest pens I have. There are zero flaws I've found and it's not really "tactical" at all.

PretentiousPreventionswell considering you've replied to every post here i can tell youre a big fan of this product. no issue there i don't doubt its a good pen, but its definitely more tactical looking than most pens that are meant to be pocket jewellery. there's no polished bits, its all tumbled/sand blasted. deep grooves meant for function. no finishing on the edge of the pocket clips. just because this is less tactical vs a boker glass breaker pen doesn't mean its not more utilitarian looking. especially compared to the caran ecridor i mentioned.

billcAgreed, billc. Massdrop totally misrepresented this in the email. Not that there's anything wrong with nickel plate but I would not have clicked through for it.
