I love everything about this style of keyboard, except the lack of an F row. I use F keys every day where one key strike is important for timing.
Damn you normies and lack of F keys usage.
Program the f keys in the second layer?
You would love a white fox until you typed on a board with plate mounted stabilizers. Ruined this board. But, still love it for the looks of it though.
Sorry if I am reading this wrong.
The Costar style stabilizer mount slot alignment problems were generally solved by flippings the stabilizers around or receiving a replacement plate from MD. IMHO, the WF is the finest keyboard there is.
I'm real curious, what does the plate mounted stabilizer change for you to feel that way?
How about looking at a 75% board?
maybe you're on the vortex race 3 drop already but.. might wanna check that out (or buy it from another online store, depending on where you live)
Unless he's into aftermarket keycaps, because those are hard to find for the Race 3. There's also the MagicForce 82 key that is on Massdrop right now for $59.99. That board has a more standard keycap setup. I mean, a 1.5u Escape key on the Race 3, who thought that was a good idea?
"who thought that was a good idea?" that esc is *the* reason i'm getting a race 3 :p i hate how 75 boards with 1u all along the top look. (ok, fine, i'm getting it for programmability too)
of course each to their own... the race3 is the marmite of keyboards lately.
plus, like, i know this is massdrop... but i've never bought an after market keycap set. there are a lot of people who are in the same boat as me there. the race3's keycaps are roughly what i wanted anyway, so.
(i've actually been browsing other DSA and SA keycaps, largely on PMK, and most of those sets have the option of the larger esc and del anyway. plus 1u and 1.25u keys actually look fine there, it's really not catastrophic.)
plus like... i just said they might want to check it out. not that it's totally The board to fulfill their stated needs, lol
if they like keycap sets, i'm sure they'd notice that's a potential compat issue by themself anyway tbh
The Race 3 has the advantage to have its stock keycaps be based on Signature Plastics DSA Granite keyset. One of my personal favorites. And I agree that this top row layout is more efficient. Because SP makes the stock keycaps they're likely to have compatibility with other sets of theirs too, but looking beyond SP your options would be limited.
If you like the look of the stock board, it's a non-issue. But in this community stock boards are not that common anymore.
oh, vortex's caps are made by SP themselves? i had thought it was a "clone".
also i just realised the drop finished yesterday anyway so uh. whoops
(i would probably put forward that the most vocal in the keyboard "enthusiast community" here care A Lot about having lots of caps, but ones who get less involved like me are likely to have more of a passing interest. like, i've had my eye on a few.. but they cost almost as much as the race3 anyway, and i only have so much money to go round. everyone i personally know either has none or one keycap sets, also because of money. (assuming a custom from WASD counts as a keycap set to you?) like... the race3 was my first kb purchase since 2011, aside from buying some replacement switches to do repair in 2014)
I'm not 100% sure on the SP keycap thing, they just look incredibly similar and happen to have the same kits available.
To each their own regarding keysets. I'm building 4 more keyboards this year so that goes hand in hand with it.
