greatexThe Omnidirectional detects and takes in sound from all directions while the Unidirectional has a certain area that the microphone faces that detects and takes in only the sound from that area. You can look up on youtube the difference of how they sound. If you have a loud environment or keyboard you may want the Uni, but the Omni sounds more natural and in my opinion gives a more natural sound

greatexUni will pick up one direction. So less background noise when it's pointed at you. Omni is picking up sound all around the microphone.
greatexThese replies are all correct, however there is one more aspect that hasn't been mentioned: The method used to cause a unidirectional mic to pick up less sound from directions other than the one in which it is pointed also causes a slight decrease in sound quality. In addition to sound quality issues, unidirectional mics are actually MORE likely to pick up wind noise, even if it is coming from the opposite direction in which the mic is pointed (because a unidirectional mic has small holes in the rear that cause sound from that direction to be cancelled out), so if you have a fan pointed towards you while gaming an omnidirectional mic might be a better choice. Unidirectional mics are also known to accentuate "pops" caused by the "P", "B", and "T" language phonemes.
So, if you are just a gamer and you don't want to have people complain about your Cherry MX Blue gaming keyboard keyswitches, or if you still live at home and you don't want your gaming buddies to hear your mom complaining about your "lazy ass not taking out the garbage when she told you to," then a unidirectional mic will be a bigger benefit to you. If you produce youtube videos or audio recordings and need to get the absolute best sound quality out of your mic, then you might be better off setting up a good quiet room and getting the omnidirectional version.
When I saw this drop was only for the omni version, I went to their website and had a look at the new ModMic 5, and I decided that it was worth it to me to get the new version (even though "OH GOD, THE PRICE!"). It is more modular and contains both a uni- and omnidirectional mic in one product that you can switch between. It's possible that on some days I will choose to use it in "uni" mode and other times the house might be quiet enough to use it in omni mode (I could always dig out my old keyboard with Cherry MX Red keyswitches for a game or two). I do sometimes use a fan to keep cool while gaming (the computer throws off so damn much heat when I'm actually stressing out two GTX 980's), so being able to switch between the two might be really important in the summer. I am a sound quality nut, and pairing the ModMic with my Sennheiser HD 650 will be amazing, so having the ability to up the sound quality going out with a quick flip of the switch is something I can see myself doing from time to time.
