Howdy Everyone,
I can not speak for other retailers out there but Massdrop is not tricking anyone here and certainly not jacking up the prices and we would never do that. We are community first and always will be. There is a couple of reason why there is a shortage and also such a high demand of cards. First the shortage. All new cell phones coming out by Apple and Samsung (and others) last year started using the same memory manufacturing channels as graphics cards makers. Apple and Samsung are willing to pay more for this memory to make sure they get it first and all of it that they need. This has created a shortage of memory for the much smaller companies like MSI, Gigabyte, Asus, and EVGA to make graphics cards. Next the demand This is obvious as the mining craze thats been going on has created a huge demand in the market as miners are goblin up just about every card available on earth. These two things combined has just made it a tough time for any system builder out there that just wants a card or two for their rig. The pricing in the market will most likely continue to go up through Q3 of this year most likely before we start seeing any type of relief. So, unfortunately the end to this is not right around the corner and we have not seen the worst of it yet. Let me finish by telling everyone on Massdrop this. I will continue to list graphics cards that I can for the community if I am able to offer a competitive price. Also, as I have mentioned in other graphics cards drops we are selling this for right above our cost just barely covering back end expenses. Why should Massdrop offer these cards above MSRP? Well, there are still customers who want to build computers now and not wait 6, 9, 12 months for the market to stabilize. So as long as I can bring them a better deal than what is currently available I will continue to do so. That being said MSRP is kind of out the window at this point so keep your eye on market price VS Massdrop as you will not see any cards out there anywhere close to MSRP for a while to come. Cheers.

Tex-ArozziThank you for saying this. Way too many people on here lately who seem to have forgotten the whole point of Massdrop...
Also, thank you for sharing what Nvidia told you about the pricing forecast. Most consumers would never hear such insider info, so that is very much appreciated, especially for first-time builders like me who FINALLY have enough to build a rig, and... well... here we are.
Anyway, thanks Hutch and MD!
curleyfreiFor sure, Thank you!

For all the people bitching about the price of these drops, I've been watching graphics card drops on Massdrop for about 3 months and they usually go something like this:
1. Drop goes live 2. Drop sells out in minutes 3. A horde of people bitch and moan about missing out on the drop, limits on numbers of cards per customer, miners and just life in general for the next few days. Repeat.
The fact that they sell out in MINUTES indicates that the price is too low for the current market conditions and your ability to get a card is based largely on luck. With this drop and the current MSI 1060/1070 drop both drops have been active for over 1 day and while there is still the herd of entitled whiners spamming the comments, the cards are at least AVAILABLE and are being bought in significant numbers at these prices. This is called the price discovery mechanism, it is the basis for free markets.
The people moaning about the price are free to NOT buy them at these prices. After months of everyone blaming miners for everything I've even seen people starting to say things like "this isn't just miners any more it's eBay speculators" what's next "fuck other gamers I want a card for ME" It doesn't matter WHO it is. The truth is the cards are being bought by another person who is willing to pay more money for the item than you are. The idea that you feel entitled to a product at a price can afford is not how the world works. It's exactly the same as complaining that you can't afford a new Ferrari for the $20,000 you have to spend on a car. Ferrari and Lamborghini are not required to sell you a product at a price you want to pay for it if the market will support them selling their entire inventory at a much higher price.
Welcome to reality.

It is as simple as supply and demand, however a car like a ferrari are typically prices higher because of the cost to create the vehicle. Italian hand stiching in the inside, the reaearch and development spent on the engine, exhaust, aerodynamics as well as the actual manufactoring for the body, engine...etc, even aston martin builds every motor by an engineers hand and I believe signs the engine too. So not only do you have the cost of the vehciucle but research, devlopment, and worker time for usually a high class skill that pay a pretty hefty amount. But in this case its suplly and demand in a ferrari case its really a high price targeted at a select few. In sales you get taught two thinfs, either sell a high quabtity or sell something expensive. Ferai just sells something expensive there is no high demand for such a expensive car, unless they are collectable then there are a lot of rich car investors, but not all are collectable

Seriously? You guys are buying this for $950 on Massdrop? You guys are either desperate or really want to use this for bitcoin. I bought this very card last year for $699.

Don't get me wrong. Ofc we are a little impatient to test our new toy. But I'm not being rude, I'm trying to make lighter, the wait of the card and the game, with a bit of humor. :) BTW: 1 DAY TILL ESTIMATED DATE!

People complaining about Massdrop, yet Massdrop's dealer probably won't budge on price. Name one place that has these cards for MSRP and still has them in stock.
If you NEED it, then it's likely worth it.
Not the "miners" fault either, most of the demand for these cards believe it or not is NOT for mining, simply for the resell value online because the demand was already there. Don't be mad at "miners", be mad at all the eBay & Amazon scam artists that are trying to force you to pay $1200+ for these cards.
While mining can be profitable, the amount of people that know what cryptocurrency mining is and how to do it, is probably near nothing compared to the size of the community of people that have been buying cheap and reselling any item into demand for decades, the size comparison probably makes miners look near non-existant.
Miners don't even KNOW if they will make a return, there is no guarantee. Vs Somebody who is simply trying to resell an unopened item knows that the profit is almost guaranteed!
As a "Miner", I don't even buy 1080Ti's! They're NOT as profitable as lower end cards calculated by their price to performance. I do not know any other "miner" that even uses 1080Ti's!
Pointing the fingers at the wrong crowd will not make this any better, will only create division and frustration.

I think there will be an influx of used cards regardless of your lack of facts opinion about it being a ponzi scheme.

Except I have played xbox for years and switching to PC was the best choice I ever made. I'm not going back. And why should I settle for less because the market was ruined by people buying 500$ cards for 1000$ in bulk? Come on... How is that remotely fair?
Look blame does evidently lie with the retailers but supply and demand is a real jerk so long as these guys keep throwing out cash these prices won't go down.
I just hope your right and that when this influx of idiots who don't know how to mine on the cheap dies down, cards will take a price plummet and we can hit the market finally...

I would not recommend this a the current price regardless of how much the price is going up. Massdrop is supposed to sell items for under MSRP by having a bunch of people back an item so they can mass buy it at wholesale prices and sell them cheaper which is why it was started, all I see on Massdrop mostly now is either bad deals (where the same item is available for a similar or cheaper price elsewhere and with quicker shipiping times), marked up GPU’s or the odd rarer items such as Massdrop made or collabs etc...

Tex-Arozzi Thanks for making this available Massdrop!! $100-250 cheaper than local prices at the moment. Good luck getting a founders edition from Nvidia! Stay in price fantasy land with your old cards if you like. I’ll enjoy my new 1080ti. Buy it if you need it!! Stop bashing a merchant for doing the community a solid. I have a family, a job, and a life. I do not have time to dig through the internet when I want something.. I didn’t want to wait and I needed a new card. So according to these genius minds I should not use my pc for 6 months.. All you forum warrior haters are 10ply. Please put a non refundable down payment requirement in place to limit the poor trolls without jobs from commenting negatively because their mommy said no.

Ways to get a much better price: 1. Buy a prebuilt, you can get an even better priced GPU based upon the prebuilt 2. Nvidia has MSRP priced cards in stock pretty often, look out for them 3. MicroCenter has a policy nationally where you can buy the parts for a whole PC at a greatly reduced price
Do NOT settle and delude yourself into thinking this is a good deal - cause it's certainly not.

I did see that and that card is at the nVidia MSRP for a GTX 1080 Ti. If I had the money, it would be more tempting
