Sweet sound
Is a part of my bedroom now. Even made my 6" car speaker sound good. Pairs well with 100w8ohm B&W685S2.

My first tube amp and I think it sounds awesome! I am driving my Epos Elan 15’s (said to have sensitivity of 90db) and it’s plenty of watts for my apartment living room. I rarely feel the need to go past 12:00 on the volume dial with comfortable listening usually around 10-11. The image is focused and the sound stage is wide and airy. Individual instruments are well resolved and highly detailed. Segovia’s guitar sounds REAL and YoYo Ma’s cello could be actually there in front of me. I’ve especially enjoyed re-listening to Roxy Music and Miles Davis Sketches of Spain. Music and vocals have shine and sparkle. Notes seem to hang in the air and shimmer. The overall sound is highly “musical” and truly engaging. It’s just FUN to listen to!
In comparison to my solid state amp (Parasound A23) with the same speakers I find the APPJ to sound significantly better and overall just more enjoyable to listen to. The Parasound amp definitely brings a “bigger” sound with a bit more bass but, by comparison, it also sounds more “boomy” and that seems to blur the midrange and upper mids as a result. The APPJ amp has plenty of low end depth and actually seems to be a bit tighter and more restrained. The bass is there with the APPJ, it’s just not thumping your chest and rattling the windows. I may just end up selling off the Parasound amp...
I keep coming back to this analogy: the APPJ “sounds” like my Sennheiser 800HD open back headphones - with an airy, detailed wide open sound stage and controlled but not overwhelming bass.
Tubewise: I immediately replaced the preamp tube with a Tung-Sol 12AX7 on advice from this list. The supplied electro-harmonic EL34 tubes sound great. I let them burn in for a couple of days. I also tried a bit of tube rolling. I bought a matched pair of Mullard EL34s and tried them as people have said the Mullard’s may sound better and have a more satisfying low end. After some burn in and after some extended listening I actually prefer the supplied electro-harmonic tubes.
Aesthetically it’s actually a real nice looking unit, despite its front panel spelling error and poor quality control - do ALL the units have a bent front foot?? It seems well made and the tube glow thing is just too cool!!
I have not a single regret with this purchase.

Very happy with this amp overall. Looks actually not that bad once I got used to it, now sitting on my kitchen shelf being driven by Sirius XM radio driving Monsoon desktop flat panel monitors and powered subwoofer. I use a passive splitter and adjust subwoofer volume separately - replaced the small tube thus far with a Sovtek 5751 and sound is very clean and lifelike, really improves the mid-fi sound of Sirius without revealing its flaws. Have not tried rolling other tubes yet, but this sounds much better than the also-chinese hybrid tube amp that was in this setup. Finally no noise! Just lovely sound! Sinatra and the Dead never sounded so good (in my kitchen)! I am very happy with EH EL34s! I didnt try bending the rear bent foot back but it is not noticeable from the front anyway.

This is my introduction to tube amps and to tell you, I love it . I purchased this for my computer to drive a set of Jamo C603's and was really impressed at the sound I was listening to! The only downfall is it didn't have a phono section on this unit. All in all, this a nice little amp.

Overall I’m really happy with this little thing. I’ve never had a tube amp before but so far it sounds really excellent despite the ridiculous spelling error and poor craftsmanship of the outer shell/bottom feet Being totally crooked. It pumps my Tekton full floor standers to very loud volumes and the bass is outstanding. I went ahead and took others Advice and threw a 5751 in the preamp tube spot before I even listened to the stock tube. As others have said in the discussio, the q.c. Is a bit of an issue as mine has very uneven feet on the base and the word ‘tube’ is spelled “Tubr”
