So what sorts of speakers would be good to use with a 3W/Ch tube amp? I'm almost temped to try it as a headphone amp on my 250Ω DT990s!

DaedAnything with a relatively high sensitivity rating. Klipsch Heresy, Zu Audio Omen, Caintuck Audio Betsy, are some budget-friendly examples.

DaedI am currently using these with low sensitivity Pioneer Elite SP-EBS73 (4 ohm, 85db). It shouldn't work well but I get a lot of volume at only 10 o'clock on the dial.

chucksayswordI realize I am responding to an old post, but I have to wonder at the "budget-friendly examples" of Klipsch Heresy ($2,000/pr), and Zu Omen ($4,500/pr).
The Betsy's appear to be in the $500/pr range, so they are in the ballpark of being budget friendly for a $100 amp pairing. But their mom/pop style website and lack of reviews, combined with a very "unique" speaker design, would make me a little leery of shelling out the $$.

dasmanI was thinking of the Omen Dirty Weekend, which sell for $999/pr (when they're available). Klipsch Heresy (previous generations) are also often available second-hand for $500-$1000/pr. Maybe not exactly budget, but certainly more reasonable.

chucksayswordI have the Omen DW, been playing with the APPJ for almost 2 months now (December 2018)...very happy with the pairing. Great upgrade from my Yamaha integrated receiver.
