I was interested in buying one. I’m a sucker for divers and the Abalone dial on a diver seemed interesting. After reading the discussions, I “wised up”. The seamed dial issue wasn’t handled well by the watch company. I’m certain that the simple replacement of the watch would have been far less expensive than the ongoing loss of potential customers. The vultures who haunt this place to bury us with their opinions and sage advice had far less impact on my decision to pass. Those with no lives tending to harangue the boards who have an opinion and trash talk about everything get quickly discounted in my eyes. That said, the continued battle between the Drop moderator and the watch vendor doesn’t send good vibes for any product offering. I thank the trolls, the ongoing battle between Drop moderator and Aquatics rep, and the apparent vendors disregard for a customers complaint, for helping me decide. Too bad. Looks like a cool watch that might have had a place in my collection. I’ll head to LIW and buy one of the Phoibos Abalone divers when they are back in stock.
I had the black MOP version traded it for a zelos wasn't terrible I had no problems with it. The watch group itself makes awesome watches this being by far my least favorite but the aquacy 1796 is awesome I have the miyota 9015 model and I'm sure the selita 200-1 model is even better just based on the movement but this company also makes oceaneva I havtn had one but many in the watch group I'm in have and not 1 person has had a bad thing to say. The 1796 can be had much cheaper and is 1mm small in the case
As both a troll and vulture, you’re welcome.
Also, I think Phoibos still has the Abalone version available on their own site for $275ish. It’ll ship from their factory in China vs the US store, just select that option.
We did send the customer another watch with promise he would send back one. He did not. Turns out he wasn't happy with that either of them yet seems to have kept both(1769 model abalone dial). We have sold thousands of the Abalone dials with only a handful of complaints. All Abalone dial watches are multi piece. The shells are NOT big enough normally to even do a dial for a 41mm watch in a single piece. Anyone selling abalone dials if you look close enough they are multi piece 99%+ of the time. Rarely are they large enough to do a whole dial in one piece. Regarding our customer service..... We have customers with warranty issues that get brand new watches rather than making them wait for repair. If you search around you certainly and find positive reviews regarding our customer service. We attempt to take care of every customer. As we did with this one on the Abalone dial. Every model we sell the reviews are overwhelmingly positive. We rarely solicit reviews. A few thousand happy customers don't bother to leave reviews. Most customers do not. That is how it goes with any product sold online. The majority of negative comments on this comment section do not even own the product. We hope the 21 people that bought this watch will come on here and post how wonderful the fit and finish is on their Cave Diver because it is! We don't cut corners on the product. These watches are grade A finish from factory. Watch factories do different grades of finish when produced. I can tell you most of our competition in this price point is Grade B finish. We have a cave diver review coming out soon(1-2 weeks) from a known you tube reviewer. We will post link once it is up. We also actually test our models with actual water pressure tests and post them. https://youtu.be/4GkGwK0169A What other brand in this price point does that? None that we know of. We are making every attempt to provide a great product at great price point with great warranty and customer service and we are doing that! Thanks for your potential interest.
Agree with you one-hundred percent; you are definitely some kind of Sucker!
Here's the deal, you ungrateful twit--if it weren't for those you refer to as:
"The vultures who haunt this place to bury us with their opinions and sage advice..."
Whom you claim:
"... had far less impact on my decision to pass."
You wouldn't have been alerted to the issues you've just listed as your reasons to pass on this butt-ugly watch, and would most likely have purchased the damn thing, and quite possibly found yourself in the same boat as the previous "victims."
And speaking (as you did) about:
"Those with no lives tending to harangue the boards who have an opinion and trash talk about everything"
And then go on to bestow upon us your opinion, about our opinions, in the same breath, I have to tell you comes off as more than a little ironic! That's the sort of piss-poor logic and ill thought out critique sure to:
"...get quickly discounted in my eyes."
Then--in what should have been the next paragraph--you go on to discount every damn point you previously tried to make, by adding:
"That said, the continued battle between the Drop moderator and the watch vendor doesn’t send good vibes for any product offering. I thank the trolls, the ongoing battle between Drop moderator and Aquatics rep, and the apparent vendors disregard for a customers complaint, for helping me decide"
Allow me to list a couple points of clarification here to help you get your facts in order:
A) There was no "ongoing battle between (the) Drop moderator and the "Aquatics rep". The moderator didn't weigh in directly until late last night, three or four days into the drop. Prior to that, the earlier photos hidden were likely the result of Members flagging them, which can hide them automatically, without (as I understand it) moderator input.
B) There is no "Aquatics rep"--the company (under the guise of this particular drop) is AQUACY, and the "rep" as you call him, is the freak'n vendor, working solo/lone ranger/only guy involved/one-man-band, and is the very same douchebag who posted somewhere north of seventy-five, unsolicited (crappy) SPAM product shots, in an effort to push MEMBER (or you as see them: "the Vultures that haunt this place") COMMENTS the vendor (or as I see him, "the douchebag") didn't like, but had no defense for, further down the page, in an a moronic effort to keep, just-got-here, know-nothing, little wankers like yourself, from seeing them, hoping they would therefore be more likely to fall for the load of crap he uses to market his stuff (ie: amateurish "pressure test" videos, fake/put-up reviews, and gross exaggerations of specs, stats, and facts, and especially--blaming customers for his failings).
C) The Members of this community, many of whom have been here for years and contribute regularly in the form of comments/questions & answers/and reviews (whom you refer to as "Vultures" and "Trolls"), do so at their own expense of time and effort with no reward other than the camaraderie of other, like-minded, community members.
D) As one of them, I can tell you we're not always in agreement with one another, we're not always right about everything, but we damn sure don't make shit up and lie to each other about it. Next time as many of us take the time to point out potential issues with a given product or vendor (as we have in this drop) or merely take the time to post links to a lower price for a given drop, I suggest you thank them for the contribution, rather than call them names--especially trite, and meaningless clichés like "troll".
An just incase you were referring more specifically to MOI, I would be happy to point you to my many positive comments and reviews where the product and/or vendor wasn't a pile of shit ;- )
Here are a couple for watches:
Here's another for a currently running multi-tool drop
And there are plenty more here:
One more tip--in the future, before you make the naive-on-stilts decision to refer to another member as a troll, take the time instead to look up their bio and consider how long they've been here and the contributions they've made. And lastly, you pompous little twat, compare the number of Peer Endorsements they've received for those contributions, to the embarrassingly small number next to your screen name. It's the best way I know to keep from inadvertently coming off as a "just-got-here, know-nothing, little wanker" as you have, this morning ;- )
Long story short. I think that the people who bought this will be happy enough. And those who are displeased will have there problem solved (although perhaps no without a hassle). What I think is more important is that we reward brands and companies which make an effort. And I think you are making a great call with a Phoibos from MAHK at longislandwatch.com!
I’m very sorry that you took my observation personally. I don’t remember speaking to you or insinuating anything directly about you. I love to learn and certainly benefit by others sharing their ideas, opinions, and experiences. I didn’t post to trash the place or everyone in it. But I see what I think is an unusual amount of negativity and few with an opinion on everything that frequent the watch boards that I read here. IMHO there seems there is a lot of negativity and a few know it alls. The fact that you managed to be personally offended by a non-person specific opinion I expressed is perhaps is alone very telling. I guess if I need your approval to voice an opinion, I’ll be certain to check in with you in the future. Please forgive me if I don’t stoop to the personal name calling you seem to desire. You’ll be easy to ignore.
It’ll be back in the future. If so, your happy customers will vouch for it and the service they received. Building a business and following isn’t a one shot deal. Brand building and loyalty takes plenty of time and effort. Thank you for your reply and the info. I’ll be watching for your return down the road.
You mean name-calling like: "Vulture" and "Troll" or were you referring to statement like: "Those with no lives tending to harangue the boards? Sure, sure-kid, "I'll forgive you if you don't stoop to the personal name calling you seem to desire"
Oops--too late for that, huh?
Piss-off you annoying little twat--there were only three people consistently weighing-in on the drop and in particular, on the subject of your earlier comment, so unless you were addressing the wee mouse in your pocket, your shit-apology, non-apology:
"I’m very sorry that you took my observation personally. I don’t remember speaking to you or insinuating anything directly about you."
pretty much followed the logic of your first comment, you know--that bit where you initially referred to us as vultures and trolls, and then thanked us for waving you off a train-wreck drop? Since you seem to be in the habit of speaking out of both sides of your mouth at the same time, guess I'll have try doubly hard to ignore both of them?
Seriously doubt'n the likelihood of that!
LOL You are killing me Ray ! Very well structured response, great usage of references. Nice !
btw i was wondering what was going on with all those pics of that damn watch, there was like 73420783 of them spamming the whole Photos section, that was ridiculous.
It was pretty wild; Stormtrooper vendor behavior, Members turning over cars and burning tires in the streets, Moderators firing tear gas to break it up--definitely one for the books ;- )
Hahah sounds a lot like a party to me, sadly I missed it all, oh well, maybe if (that’s a big if) they allow them to Drop that watch again then I will be in attendance lol
You were definitely missed!
But don't worry, next time we throw a watch-riot, we'll make sure to save you a seat ;- )
