Not really see'n it here for twelve-hundred big ones. Yeah, yeah--it's a GMT with a Swiss accent, has a unidirectional bezel (of which I myself am a big fan), even some nice crown guards (which I like too), but for that much dough, a guy could buy a Steinhart Batman GMT and a Steinhart Pepsi GMT--that's two Swiss GMT watches for what one of these guys cost. Now Steinhart may not be everyone's cup of springs and gears, but Steinharts do come in 39mm, 42mm and 44mm case sizes, an option you don't get here with these Armond Nicolets. So, two watches for the price of one, in almost any size you like, vs only one of these, in only one size?

RayFI like the option for the steinhart, and I think you got the right one in the 39 mm size. Apples to apples though, I don’t like the look of the steinhart 44 gmt compared to this. I’d choose this one if I was looking for something that size. Now at twice the price... The AN is half a mil thinner, but I looked it up and it has wider lugs, so it balances it out more in my eye. The steinhart 44 gmt reminds me of the deep sea. The lumed bezel option on the steinhart 39 gmt is what seals it for me. This AN has no lume on the bezel, as well as a butterfly clasp on the bracelet. That’s what ultimately kills this watch for me. I can never get a butterfly bracelet to fit right; at least a company like Ball gives you micro adjustments on theirs.

RayFWhile Steinhart is a great piece, its another "me too" Rolex homages of the world. Squale and Steiny makes great homages, but all too alike. The Armand design is quite different from the bezel to the lug curve. Though still a bit pricey, but quite tempting.

WatchyoutalkingaboutActually, I bought the 42mm Ocean 1 and that's a good size for me in general. I do have a 40mm Invicta that I like, but that's as small a case as I would go for. As for this one, if we're speaking of watches over $1,000, I'd be more inclined to save a little more and get something on my top-ten list, rather than settle for an also-ran, regardless of it's origins.

Octoberprince78I'll be damned if I'd buy an ugly watch, rather than the watch I really wanted, for the sole purpose of avoiding criticism of my choice by someone repeating that worn-out trope: "its another 'me too' Rolex homage." As I've said before, the Submariner form factor became the de facto dive watch design a long time before you and I were born--and it's a design I happen to like, regardless of who makes it. By the same token, every time I put on a pair of pants, I don't worry about who invented the two-legged version ;- )

RayF@RayF I was thinking the same thing, before I read your comment. I'd definitely consider a Steinart vs this watch. If I couldn't deal with Rolex Sub style, I prefer the look of the CW C60 Trident GMT 600, which would sacrifice nothing on specs (or warranty), save >$100US, and like the Steinart has case size options. The angular crown guard and lugs on this watch don't appeal to me, and I feel the dial is a bit cluttered/full with all the double-bar indices. The latter really sticks with me the most, since I feel like a true diver should have some negative space in the dial to help create more of that open-ocean depth.

zofodraziwDefinitely agree with you on the indices. As a side note, I received an email the other day offering several watches from this manufacturer; all with MSRPs north of $1,500, yet all on sale for less than $600. While this model wasn’t included, I remain suspicious of Invicta-like Swiss watch price schemes and especially their value.

RayFPerma-sale pricing doesn't sit well with me, either. When jewelry gets priced and advertised like mattresses, something has gone terribly wrong.

RayFFunny: my Dutch watch2day website features a sale on this Armand Nicolet just today as well... Funny, and I agree: the price is not that great either for what you get. As far as Rolex goes: at least this one does not have the obligatory Mercedes hand...

WatchyoutalkingaboutNot a diver?! Well, if you inadvertently fall overboard during your next America’s Cup, that watch will keep ticking at least long enough for your helmsman come about and pick you up. In that respect—it’s good enough! BTW, if you just drill a little hole in the side to let the helium out, you’d have a dandy diver ;- ) kidding—beautiful watch!

RayFGood point. I do have a drill. I also figured since the platinum bezel and platinum are nothing but dead weight, I should just cover it all in some lume. Thanks man.

WatchyoutalkingaboutI think you're on to something! Willing to bet Rolex sees that photo and comes out with a new a watch based on your idea! You should probably hire a good lawyer now and get ready to sue the pants of them the minute it comes out!
