I was looking at the AN line on Ashford’s site. This model M-02 is priced substantially lower, especially the ones that are shop-worn, end-of-stock, etc. Also, pictures showed the back as well, with its clean but sparsely decorated ETA movement. (Decorated better than Hamilton, which are generally base ébauches.) I have bought from them before and really enjoyed the customer service. They threw in free FedEx to Canada when I discussed the deal I wanted with them a couple years back on a discontinued Perrellet Jump Hour (beautifully decorated movement and rare complication, $1.7K for $8K MSRP at the time).

The watch doesn't appear to exist on their website. I wonder if it is discontinued, or what?

Screen shot showing back (and deal!). In hand, the case is nicely finished on the back with deep engraving and a ‘coin edge’.

Sad that the watch face designer felt the need to place the overly redundant text "DAY & DATE" just over the actual day and date displays. This gives it a cheesy cheap watch look IMHO. I presume it's using a ETA/SW movement with an alternative name?

This is a Swiss company continuously operated for over a century, but in recent years managed by an Italian guy, with design offices in Italy. They concentrate on the European market, like a lot of German watchmakers. They were mostly known throughout their history for supplying eloaborate, high-quality movements to other companies.
Their line of $2,500-$3,000 list price divers is interesting: 300-meters with rotating bezels, but they don't look like divers at all, thanks to the Italians.

One thing I like about the Armand Nicolet diver series is that they all have only a 12 and 4 on the watch face. Most companies would figure, "No room for any other numbers than 12 and 4? Then let's just drop all numbers and go with indices everywhere." Not Armand Nicolet. The 12 and the 4 stay. You get the feeling that Nicolet's birthday might be December 4. And in truth, there is plenty of room for more numbers, say 10 and 2. Why just the 12 and 4? That's the mystery of Armand Nicolet.

Interesting. That design is distinctly Italian; that is to say, bold, likely to be loved by some, but equally likely to be hated by others.

The "Automatic Day and Date" on the face is their version of Orient's "Water Resistant." Too much, not needed.
