Is this desk still nice to use without the mouse mat surface on it? Or is it intended to be used with the mouse mat as the surface only?

AdamJThis is a gaming desk and really designed with laser-like focus on that in product development. You can use it without the pad, but that seems to defeat the purpose. But you would still have a high-quality, extremely stable platform for whatever work you would be doing.
